I’m really not even sure what to make of Gundead Defense [App Store]. It’s a free tower defense game set in 1885 where cowboys are battling zombies in the wild west. While the premise is beyond ridiculous, the gameplay is extremely solid and it even features some functionality I haven’t seen in other tower defense games before.
Gundead Defense follows the standard tower defense formula in that there are creeps traveling down a set path that you need to defend. Instead of placing towers, you position members of your posse armed with different kinds of weapons. You can also dispatch different henchmen down the path to fight with the creeps to supplement your defenses, which creates this interesting second layer of strategy to the game as you not only need to manage placing and upgrading members of your posse, but you also must strategically order your henchmen to attack to exploit the weaknesses of the various zombie types.
In addition, there’s also a multiplayer mode where you can either play on a single device, or with two devices via Bluetooth. When playing via Bluetooth, both players play at once on a split map and you can see where your opponent is placing towers and everything. It’s really cool, and again, I can’t believe they’re not charging for any of this.
The included single player has seven maps and features both a quick play mode and a story mode that focuses on your posse robbing a bank and being jumped by zombies. There’s also a single 99¢ DLC level pack that adds an additional seven maps and allows you to play as the zombies who have completely different abilities. Purchasing the DLC pack also will let you play as the zombies in multiplayer.
I’ve been having a great time with Gundead Defense, and highly recommend downloading it. If you somehow haven’t played a tower defense game before, this freebie is an excellent introduction to the genre.

looks fun, still wish there was a gun to use in there, from the window.
If you check out the other screenshots on their site you will see one that has a gun you can buy. Not sure how its used in the game but might be what you looking for.

I think I'll stick to Plants Vs. Zombies
Castle Frenzy is having severe bugs since its release months ago. They never will become patched. Game is unable to remember archievements and stats correctly. You loose them again and again. This happens every game. Not worth a penny.
There can't be too many zombie games, the question is if there are too many castle defense games.
I got to the point where if it has any zombies in it I don't bother with it all. I'm so sick of these zombie games (plants vs. zombies is an exception).
I think developers think if they make something with zombies today that it will sell. the thing is there game might do better if it stands out from the crowd

There are not many good castle defense games. For me only Knights Onrush.
Ok yeah, awful review/preview on Jason's part. This has a lot of unique gameplay elements that no one but the testers (myself and others) have seen, so don't be too quick to judge. Check out the forum before making your decision.
Agree, he didn'y even post a link to the forum thread, and i agree, all the beta's been saying this game is just so awesome, i can't put it down.
Funny...Touch Arcade complains about the Zombie Theme...BUT HEY YOU GUYS ARE FEATURING EVRY ZOMBIE GAME SINCE THE APOCALYPSE ...:-)

I'm a developer and I beta tested this. It's really great. The best part for me is the sandbox where you can launch a bunch of zombies and then unleash all the different weapons on them. The splatter engine and physics are amazing. It's not your typical castle defense game or zombie game. I'm actually surprised it's priced at $2. It's easily a $3 game if not more.
Im sorry but you cant compare Zombie Smash to Knights Onrush and Castle frenzy, Zombie smash is in a leauge of its OWN, abit to QUICK to judge i think, the saying "don't judge a book by its cover" will fit nicely here.

well if the rest of 2010 is anything like the 2010 so far where 5star ratings are tossed around like sweets then yes i KNOW ZombieSmash for ME is going to be the best this year. what i mean by that is im sick of going to the app store or forums and im seeing 5star ratings and everyone going crazy for a game, so i go with the hype and buy the game only to find that theres tons of glitches, bugs and crashes, fair enough the developers can update these problems but the problem is so far every game i have bought so far this year the games have been updated by adding new features but they havent actually sorted out problems that needed sorting.

im beta testing Zombie Smash at the moment and all i can say is WOW, to me its got everything a Zombie and Castle Defence game should have, and its EXACTLY the game ive been looking for, so YEAH i know its going to be the best game of 2010 for ME.

this is definitely going to be the best castle defender game when it hits the appstore because I beta tested it and it was awesome with great developers. The thing that kept me coming back was the amazing physics and sandbox more, where you can just create a custom wave of zombies and unleash and unlimited amount of weapons on them- definitely not your ordinary castle defender :)
I do agree there are too many zombie and castle defence games but how many of those can u actually say are worth buying? I have only found a few games which in opinion were worth buying, one of the top ones in my opinion is plants vs zombies, I actually love Zombie Smash more than PvZ, yeah PvZ brilliant but it's a port of the Pc, been there done that and bought the tshirt and getting boring, Zombie Smash is new, fresh and something different. To me it's got that wow factor and anyone that's looking for that decent and different zombie or castle defence, Then here it is, you won't be dissapointed.

We started ZombieSmash! over 1 year ago. At this time there was no defend your castle style game and only very few zombie games in the appstore.
Today that has changed. But I think it was worth to put more time into this game.

Is there any type of game which has not been reanimated a hundred times in app store? Is there any special reason to mob this game? If you all feel the need of being picky suddenly just look at a the stuff you have already bought and soon deleted and weep into the mirror.
I will buy and download this game.
