‘Teen Titans GO Figure!’ Gets New Trailer and Bonuses Announced for Players of the Original ‘Teeny Titans’

There are few games I’m more excited for than Teen Titans GO Figure!, the upcoming sequel to one of the very best games of 2016 Teeny Titans ($3.99) from Cartoon Network and Grumpyface Studios. This new game was first announced back in early April with a brief trailer that showed off some of the new features we could look forward to in the sequel, like playing as all five Teen Titans and the ability to repaint the figures we’ve collected in a number of cool ways. Today the developers have announced some more new features alongside a great new trailer showing more of Teen Titans GO Figure! Basically, the big news is that owners of the original Teeny Titans are in store for some special bonuses. Simply owning the first game will unlock a special Hooded Hood figure in the new game, but if you’re among those who actually beat Teeny Titans, then you’ll be rewarded with “an extra surprise figure." Oohhhh, mysterious!

In case you didn’t play the original Teeny Titans (SHAME), it was along the lines of a Pokemon-style figure-collecting RPG that poked all sorts of fun at the plastic toy battling trend popularized by the likes of Amiibos and the Skylanders series. In the most meta way possible, the Teen Titans and in fact everyone in Jump City gets obsessed with battling figures called Teeny Titans who are based on the Teen Titans themselves and the superheroes and villains of the greater DC world at large. The battling itself was a total joy, and the game was stuffed with all sorts of humor that just made me smile while I played.

And, in what seemed like a superfluous touch but ended up being a defining feature of Teeny Titans, you’d gain a large portion of your figure collection the good old fashioned way: by heading to a toy store. In fact, it was common to find a super rare character that had been misplaced (or purposely hidden by another potential buyer; I know I myself am guilty of pulling that move) and is hanging on the rack behind a bunch or regular old common figures. Going into stores and basically tossing around every figure hanging on the wall became a huge part of the fun of Teeny Titans, and that aspect will be coming back in the sequel.

Teen Titans GO Figure! will take its storyline cues from the upcoming animated feature film Teen Titans GO! to the Movies, which is scheduled to launch in theaters on July 27th. The premise of the game is as follows: “Someone’s trying to put the Teeny Titans Figure Company out of business and all signs point to… the Justice League?! Play as Robin, Raven, Cyborg, Starfire or Beast Boy as you battle and search for clues to solve this mystery. Journey beyond Jump City to visit Gotham City and explore Wayne Manor, the Batcave, and Arkham Asylum! Travel on to scenic Metropolis, where you can enter the Hall of Justice and even reach the orbiting Justice League Watchtower!" I can’t wait to visit all of those new locations and get back to my figure battling obsession. Teen Titans GO Figure! doesn’t have a solid release date but will be available in time for the movie’s launch in July. In the meantime, it’s not too late to play the original Teeny Titans in preparation for the sequel (I’m probably going to play through it all again for the third time, just for fun), so give our glowing review a read and get ready for Teen Titans GO Figure! later this summer.
