Asmodee Digital, the fine purveyors of digital board games across various platforms, today announced a release window for Terraforming Mars from Fryxgames. Originally announced last year for a 2018 release, Asmodee is bringing Terraforming Mars to iOS, Android, and Steam later this quarter. It will be launching next month on Steam through Early Access for people who can’t wait for the final product. Terraforming Mars sees you play as a corporation and create oceans and forests with resources coming from Earth through various game modes. Watch the introduction trailer for the original release below:

This digital release has been developed by LUCKYHAMMERS alongside Jacob Fryxelius, the creator, for the definitive adaptation of the game. It launched physically in 2016 and has quite the cult following now. Andrew was just telling me how one of his friends was gushing about the physical version of it. I’m quite excited to check it out when it launches in the next few months.

Terraforming Mars’ digital release will feature two single player modes allowing you to play solo like the actual game or against the AI. There will also be local pass and play multiplayer and online multiplayer for the release. The release window for it now is later in this quarter with the Steam release happening in Early Access next month.

I wasn't particularly impressed by the board game. While it's not bad, it does not live up to the hype. The theme is excellent, but there are tons of better strategy games out there. That said, there have been many mediocre board/card games that have amazing app conversions, like Ascension, so I'll reserve my judgement until I've tried the app.
