Egglia: Legend of the Redcap is a mobile RPG created by a team with a tremendous pedigree in the gaming industry, comprised of members who have worked on the Mana series, Mother 3, and the Kingdom Hearts series. It released in Japan back in April and shot up the charts, and this week developers Powerchord Studio and Brownies Inc. have announced that Egglia: Legend of the Redcap is releasing in English in August. The land of Egglia has become trapped inside of eggs piece by piece, and one day a red capped elf named Chabo falls from the sky and embarks on a quest to restore the world to its former glory. It's all explained quite well in the new English language trailer for Egglia: Legend of the Redcap.

Besides typical RPG stuff like roaming the land, talking to interesting characters, and completing various types of quests, there's also a heavy emphasis on restoring the land of Egglia and helping it become a thriving community again. It almost feels like a heavy dose of Animal Crossing has been injected into Egglia, which is pretty exciting to me. Another surprising thing about this game is that I instantly assumed it would be a free to play game, especially with all the city-building and egg-hatching stuff going on, but in fact Egglia is a completely premium game with no IAP. While a specific release date for Egglia: Legend of the Redcap hasn't been set yet, it should be arriving sometime in August, and about that pedigree of the development team I mentioned earlier? They've put together a neat little video talking about the making of the game which you can see below.

I bought it in Japan the day it came out and have enjoyed it a lot. It mixes a lot of genres but does it well. The creator of this game was also behind Legends of Mana and the characters have a Mana feel for sure.

Just to clarify, the Mana series creator had nothing to do with this game. He's the head of Grezzo, which recently released Ever Oasis on 3DS. This game is by Brownies, which is headed by the Mana series character artist. They usually just do grunt work for other designers and publishers, but their original works include Magical Starsign and A Kappa's Trail on DS. Quirky, flawed, but interesting games are their forte.

Right the characters are the part that has the Mana look and feel
The game itself is a bit unique I will buy it again when the English version drops that's how much I like it

  • JudasKain

    Premium RPGs yeah boi!

Instabuy! Almost reminds me of Ever Oasis (3DS) which also had the Secret of Mana creator behind it. Ever Oasis is a blast -- I'm looking forward to this one!

Wow, and Yoko Shimomura is the composer? If the music is one-tenth as good as Legend of Mana's, I'll be happy.

  • brantov

    God bless Japan.

  • ValentiaLyra

    It looks so charming.

Same artists, writers and composer as Legend of Mana, my FAVORITE RPG of all time! I'm going crazy here.
