‘Crossy Road’ Multiplayer Update Releases on Android, iOS Version Later

TouchArcade Rating:

The multiplayer update for Crossy Road (Free) has just released on Android. Now, up to 4 players on local wi-fi can try to become top road crosser. The mode has a mixture of competitive and cooperative play, as you can revive dead players to come back to life, in order to get higher scores for the team, though individual glory is also at stake. The multiplayer mode should work on Android TV as well as on phones and tablets, but there appeared to be a bug on the Android TV version at launch where the multiplayer mode wasn’t selectable by the controller, though this is sure to be fixed.

The update is developed in part by Yodo1 Games, the publisher of Crossy Road on Android, and that’s why it’s an Android exclusive at first…sort of. The Apple TV version got multiplayer as well, now we’re just waiting on the iOS version to get it, which should happen in May. A shame it’s not an online-enabled mode, but what are you gonna do? Just gonna have to get actual friends, I guess.

There are two things very off putting about the Telltale games. First is that because of their episodic nature, if you buy in immediately, you will have a long wait between all the episodes until you get a conclusion. Conversely, you can wait half a year, or however long it takes, after release to play the whole story.

Second is price. Now the price might be appropriate for the quality of the games (the only TT game I've bought completely is The Wolf Aming Us, though I also got TWD for free with a Vita), but $20-25 can go a long, long way on the App Store and blowing it all on a 5-hour story often feels very excessive.

WAU and the 1st TWD was worth every penny (and more). Borderlands was fun, highs and lows, but fun- still worth it. Aside from that, I dunno about the rest.

Oh, I'm not saying they aren't necessarily worth the money, just that the price being so high makes it a much more difficult purchase with such a big opportunity cost.

Alright, I can't disagree with you. For the full episodic cost, one can't help but be totally invested. That's why FULL reviews and imps are so very important to us (thanks TA).
