‘Go Pogo’ Features Tons of Nitrome Cameos and Pogo Sticks

Nitrome, fine purveyors of pixel art games, have another new game coming out this Thursday on American Thanksgiving, Go Pogo. You control a character bouncing on a pogo, sliding your finger horizontally to control the angle of the pogo, with wider jumping angles jumping lower but further. And of course, you have to make sure you actually land on the spring of the pogo so you don’t fall over and die. Not only can you pogo as some random characters that look similar to the Vault (Free) protagonist, but there’s a number of Nitrome cameos to unlock. I’m a sucker for cameos from other games, and Go Pogo has them in spades.

Now, what’s interesting about the game is the lives system that it has. There’s a series of fixed levels, and every time you die, it uses up a life. These don’t necessarily recharge, but you can spend 5 coins to get an extra life, or get 3 extra ones by watching a video ad. And of course, you can buy coins. But another wrinkle is that there’s an endless mode that’s without restrictions as to how much you can play it, and here you can not only earn coins, but also find the occasional extra life for the level-based mode. It’s certainly a different business model, and I’m curious to see how it pans out for players and for Nitrome.

Oh, and word is that the slick-looking Rust Bucket is near completion…
