There are few PC racing games I have fonder memories of than the RC car racer Re-Volt. It hit in the late 90’s, and I couldn’t even begin to guess the amount of time I spent playing multiplayer with friends around that time. Re-Volt Classic ($5.99) is available on the App Store, but it’s one of those games that you need to have some thick rose colored nostalgia classes on to fully enjoy. Regardless, this classic IP seems primed for a reboot.
Re-Volt 2 briefly popped up on the App Store this morning, in what likely was a very typical SNAFU of submitting your game early to see if it’ll get approved but forgetting to set the release date far enough in the future so when it does get approved it doesn’t immediately become available on the App Store.
Judging by the iTunes description, it’s a multiplayer free to play racing game with loads of upgrades, 264 stages, and 4 game modes. It’s not clear if the multiplayer is real time or if you’ll be racing against ghosts similar to what Real Racing 3 (Free) originally did.
Either way, it’s a little disappointing to continue seeing this trend of taking beloved IP and re-working it as a free to play game… But, I’ll reserve judgement until I get a chance to play it. On the up side, it can’t be worse than Dungeon Keeper (Free) …right?
