The best part about Wednesdays is surprises. If you would've asked me yesterday when a western port of Dragon Quest was going to hit, I'd have told you, "No idea, probably never." Well, it's a few hours away from hitting the US market. That's pretty awesome. There's a bunch of other cool stuff on the way too, I'm oddly excited to play a kebab cart simulator, for instance.

Here's what's on our radar, and of course, I'll add whatever else pops up throughout the rest of the day:

  • sivad

What a weak week... ;). For my wallet

    • Stormourner

sometimes a week can be weak and sometimes a week can be wicked

  • bcredonk

    Too busy with battleheart legacy!

  • Amenbrother

Battleheart Legacy is all you need!

  • iValerio1990

need more memory :( what can i delete ?

    • Stormourner

just delete any game you're not interested anymore or buy another iOS device

      • iValerio1990

the problem is : I am interested in everyone

      • Stormourner

to me I hoard the games and play few of them. since my iPad 4 had no enough space I was forced to buy iPad Mini. I wish Apple would bring us 500GB iOS devices (1TB would be better) or create a external HHDs for iOS devices to move any games I finished completely

      • BoonyTuesday

If you are buying new devices for more space, it's working to Apple's advantage not to add more storage.

      • Stormourner

to be honest I don't wanna buy another iPad and I do want to delete the games that I don't want but I'm an app hoarder *shrugs*

      • JP Falcon

I see no problems with deleting games, afterall you are not losing them forever and the game saves can be maintained as well...I look a deleting games as simply putting them away in a closet, to be reinstalled at some future date....

      • iValerio1990

modern combat 4 deleted..hope 5 will be out soon

      • Stormourner

of course the deleted games can be found on the appstore but the games' progress will be lost forever. if any online games are removed from the appstore I delete them because it's no use playing them without the server from the company

      • curtneedsaride

unless you back up your saves with PhoneView or iFunbox or the like! You don't even need to jailbreak. I've been using PhoneView for years now. Just reinstalled Horn and transferred my old save.

      • Stormourner

I should have used PhoneView or iFunbox in the first place (I'm looking at you, Geosociety+!!). I still need to play the games (once my laziness goes away) and decide which game should stay on my device or to be deleted

      • melocoman

Agreed but in Apple's logic, 16 gigabites = an extra hundred dollars

  • zeratulo

Romans in my carpet is really good, check it out.

  • Broli95

Dragon quest got translated: something tells me monster hunter will be next ;)

    • Killerluffy246

I hope they translate mh3rd portable instead , F2 is way too outdated

  • Hero Killer Id

Holy Ka-Shizzle you made my morning! Now we need all the other Dragon Quest games. NEED!!

    • Billy Ocean

      NEEEEEEEDuh

    • Leydz Boomshaka-Irwin

      $25 on the NZ Appstore.

  • zeratulo

Is that the dragon quest from PS2 or the one after on DS?

    • defunct32

      PS2.

      • zeratulo

Oh, well I guess I got everything I needed last night then.

      • rpgmind

        What's the difference?

      • a_apple

One is 8 and the DS one is 9. They're entirely different games.

  • defunct32

DQ in portrait? I hope it won't be annoying to play... And I bet it's going to be $19.98 here (I'm not from the US).

    • NaeemTHM

I think even at 20 dollars, Dragon Quest VIII is a steal. I mean, the game still retails for 30 dollars on PS2 and...you know...you can play it on you're freaking PHONE now.

It's a fantatsic 80+ hour RPG people! You wouldn't bat an eye if this was 20 dollars on PSN or Steam.

      • defunct32

Price is not a problem because I just spent $18.98 on Record of Agarest War (I'm addicted to the game, it's a great game for me), I was thinking if it's going to cost that much I'll have to wait for payday and I simply cannot wait! ;)

      • CDRwasabi

Uhhhh 90% of my steam games were $7.50 and lessss

  • AsgerJ

    Was hoping for Godus

    • zeratulo

      True that

  • Speedster117

This just made my day. :) im so happy

  • Speedster117

I just wish dragon quest was cheaper.

    • Stormourner

how much you want for Dragon Quest to be?

      • Speedster117

Well idk, I thought it would be like $6.99. $19.99 is quite a lot for an ios game.

      • http://toucharcade.com Eli Hodapp

I know it's not worth arguing because of iOS gamer pricing entitlement and all, but this is actually the cheapest Dragon Quest game to ever be released as far as I can tell.

      • Speedster117

I got dragon quest 8 on my ps2 for like 5 bucks.

      • {SQUEEK}

Yes i got many games for my ps2 for under $5, however this is for the iphone and portable. You can always wait for a price drop.

I say buy this those that way we can get more quality games then cheap games loaded with iaps

      • http://toucharcade.com Eli Hodapp

Wait, are you comparing the price of old used PS2 games to brand new iOS games? I mean, I guess they're both technically video games but that seems pretty crazy.

      • BoonyTuesday

Directly from the publisher or Bargain Bin pricing?

      • curtneedsaride

On day one from a gaming store?! I doubt it.

      • Darkenroll

If by "ios game" you mean a game designed and developed to be sold on Apples App Store than I would remind you that this game was originally made for a console system, where prices usually range from 30-60$. Different standards, associated marketing costs, etc. If you want to argue that ports in general are overpriced I'd say probably; it depends how much you want it.

      • Goggles789

This isn't your typical throw-away, shovel-ware, play-for-a-couple-hours-then-delete, POS iOS app. This is a quality game with hours of replay value. 20 bucks is an extremely reasonable asking price for a console game ported to portable.

  • PersonaSpace

Saw Bubble Witch Saga 2 on the Android Marketplace so I figured we were getting that on iOS tonight too. Darn.

  • {SQUEEK}

I am sooo getting Dragon Quest

  • DannyTheElite

    Still no vvvvvv....

  • jusadamfal

DRAGONQUEST!!!!!!!! Are you shitting me?!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited! And I'm 28 ha! Instabuy!!!!!!!!! Xoxoxoxoxoxoxo

    • {SQUEEK}

This was how i felt when i first heard the news

  • Zazzy

Its days like these that make my purchase of an ipad air instead of ps4 even sweeter :)

    • Based Xatu

Except for the fact, you will never actually have ownership of any of your games and your device will be outdated in a year. Other than that, great choice!

      • a_apple

Stop being that way. No one likes a person like that

  • Goggles789

    Dragon Quest VIII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • max1357913

Why oh why square enix, did you thinks to make dragon quest 8 portrait mode only? That's gonna be a bit hard to play on my 5th gen ipod, is it not?

  • Jay G

How much you want to bet DQ is riddled with IAP and timers? That seems to happen every time something this size and scope gets released without warning. They want to get as many suckers as possible before the outrage starts.

    • max1357913

Checked on the NZ App Store, and there are none!

      • Jay G

        Awesome!

      • Goggles789

        Thank god

      • Goggles789

        And thank you for checking!

    • geno11233

Lol it's going to be roughly $20 and you think it will have timers?! Come on, give Square a break they are doing pretty damn good.

      • Jay G

That was before I knew how much it costs. They do have a few IAP-riddled freemiums under their banner, so it wasn't an unreasonable thought, especially given the climate in the App Store these days, and absolutely no warning of its release.
Besides, I've already bought it on the PS2 when it was new and didn't get time to play it, so I don't think I'll be shelling out for it again.
*sigh* so many good games, so little time...

  • max1357913

But does anyone know whether it can be played landscape mode as portrait may be hard for an iPod touch

    • defunct32

I think you're supposed to play it with your thumb... great huh?

  • hellscaretaker

my pc itunes folder stands at 80gig in games

  • geno11233

What time tonight??!?? In the U.S central time zone that is.

    • clompah

      That's about 11:00pm.

  • GrumpyM

Anyone have any feedback in portrait mode only for the ipad in DQ? How will that work? And any word on cloud sync save games?

  • Inaba-kun

The switch to portrait mode for Dragon Quest is incredibly weird and illogical. It will make the game impossible to play without hand cramps.

Hopefully they'll fix it. If not, I'll give it a miss.

  • orangecan

I did fancy DQ despite having played it through already and the price tag but there are a fair few comments on the main thread about it not being a particularly great port and missing the voice acting and score, so I'm going to hang fire until I know more.

  • Bloodangel

Dragon quest, battleheart legacy and warfare nations I'm thinking :)

  • ravippe

I'm trying to reason when the other square games will come to us.

So in japan how many dragon quest games are there for ios? I think I seen dq1 floating around on a YouTube video. The rule is follow the japanese release dates. Calculate how long in between releases and you will get an accurate answer

And about the price remember square Enix released the final fantasy games each for 15.99. But it took a good few holidays for the price to drop temporarily to 8.99. I don't think this will have much of a sale if any soon. Better buy it and try to save on some other apps

    • Shaun Musgrave

So far, it's been DQ1, DQ8, and DQ4, in that order. DQ1 was a couple months before 8, and DQ4 released fairly recently.

  • ste86uk

Someone saying weak week on a week Battleheart Legacy was released! It's all I need for a long time now haven't even looked at any other apps.
