You may want to kiss your social life goodbye as Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, Blizzard’s highly successful trading card game, has been soft-launched for the iPad in Canada, New Zealand and Australia. Based on Warcraft’s lore, it may look like a re-skin of Magic the Gathering but beneath the surface is a different beast. Sure you’ll open packs, assemble the best deck you can build and beat your opponents with it, but it does away with terrains. Thus, it’s a simpler and more approachable game that is also incredibly fun. Millions of players have already spent countless hours on the recently released desktop version, and the game’s look and feel is a natural fit for iOS. We loved the iPad version when we previewed it late last year. You’ll be able to play it for free and you’ll also have the option to connect to your account thus getting the cards and progression synchronized with the PC/Mac version.

You shouldn’t have to wait too long for the worldwide release and Android and iPhone users will be able to get in on the fun during the second half of this year. If you want to share your excitement and get some early impressions on the game don’t forget to swing by the thread in our forums.

YEEEEESSSS!!! Ok. I'm done. Can't wait!

  • gquiller

Great! Once they get more data for bugs it will go totally live, but I want it NOW!!!!

  • Crimzzen

  • jlpizzle

Well, there goes my last reason to keep the laptop. Can't wait!

  • Amenbrother

Is there a single player campaign?

    • Clement Renaudin

Not really. You can play against the AI but that's about it. I think a single player campaign called "adventures" is the first expansion that will be coming out later this year but I could be wrong.

      • Opinion

Thatd be nice. The only bad thing in hearthstone is the lack of structured story

      • falco

Well there will be a adventure mode coming later

      • worldcitizen1919

The game is so repetitive. My opponents are all stacking their cards with taunts. Total waste of time.

      • blackbear219

A taunt heavy deck has it's own weaknesses and is just as easily defeated as anything else.

  • iOSPeace

Yes! I'm quitting life and waiting for this so bad

  • Ederfb

Is it supposed to be out yet (in Canada)? As I'm Canadian and I've been waiting for that release for a few months... But, I don't find it in the AppStore 🙁

    • DeLtAg1An9O

Is out men, AND I CAN'T STOP PLAYING IT!!!

  • Vinit Agarwal

Anyone know how to make an international iTunes account? It seems like you need a valid payment method in that country... but is there a way around that?

    • iPhone Gruru

Sign out on the computer, but a free app (iBooks). And fill it out the info and you will be able to select a no payment method.

  • Ederfb

Never mind... As soon as I post my comment above, went back into the AppStore and... It's downloading! 🙂 I know a few iPad games that will be put aside for a while 😛

  • shathox3x

When will this be released for the iPhone?

    • DeLtAg1An9O

      It isn't

  • pixelfumes

I've been playing for months on the Mac and have been waiting for the iOS release for so long! #Stoked

  • B-Rabbit

Can't freaking WAIT till this is on AppStore.

  • eventide

    • andrew9oh7

      Your loss

    • DeLtAg1An9O

  • falco

It is already in appstore 🙂

  • scamper

What’s with all the soft-launches? If I could filter those announcements out, I would.

    • gquiller

I've heard it's because developers want to squash any possible remaining bugs before it goes worldwide.

      • Taeles

Yup, us Americans are t as tolerant of bugs as the soft launch countries apparently 😛

      • worldcitizen1919

Not really. They're just too afraid to use you as beta testers.

  • Grummie

    OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!

  • torosama

Yessssssss....... Glad I creates an Australian account to get a lot of these soft launch games!

  • Opinion

I knew it yes! Oh man this is amazing hopefully you can carry over custom decks i it mentioned that in the post good for you i was too excited to read it.

  • falco

This game is beautiful on iPad retina this is perfect and exactly what I expected!

  • godelescherbach

I wish I could share the excitement, but I am completely unable to enjoy card games 🙁

    • DeLtAg1An9O

  • !nsomn!ac

I really wish it had an iphone version. I played PC version and it is addicting as hell. Wanted to get 3 wins foe the World of Warcraft mount, ended up playing the rest of the evening

  • Xexist

I appear to be in the minority, but I played this on the PC and it really just didnt strike me as that fun. Number of cards was so limited, didnt seem to be much depth...

  • elijahca

Oh man, first FTL and now Hearthstone! Good day for iPad owners.

    • DeLtAg1An9O

      Plus Monument Valley

  • Nycteris

    Love. This. Game.
Just wish I was better at it.

I have been playing today on ipad and so far I'm not liking it at all. So far my opponents are just stacking their cards with taunts making it a prolonged defensive game verging on boredom.

They need to have a single player and AI skirmishes and a story mode otherwise you can waste 20 minutes trying to get through someone's taunt.

Very boring. Very limited in gameplay . Graphics and sound are great but it's lacking in gameplay. Much, much work needs to be done to bring this up to par with games like Spellcraft & Magic or Talisman. Just a game where your opponent stacks his cards with taunt makes for a very, prolonged, arduous and boring game.

    • DeLtAg1An9O

    • Nycteris

Flamestrike gets rid of a lot of taunt 😉 also Silence gets rid of taunt- and direct damage goes right over it (fireball, etc)

      • worldcitizen1919

Thanks for those tips. I might give it another try but losing interest fast. The only thing I enjoyed about this game so far was the tutorial.

  • DeLtAg1An9O

    I LOVE IT!!!

  • Velcroe

I am curious how approachable is this game for people who have never played any of the card games. The fact that there is not single player mode and I am going against other players is a bit concerning to me.

  • JammyJams

The last time I played a card game was Magic the Gathering 20 years ago. I've shied away from them since because they were too 'dorky' and just not that much fun... Or so I thought. Hearthstone hits me right on so many levels.

Seems simplistic at first, but its actually pretty deep and a lot of fun. Every match is different I keep having to rethink my strategy after each one. The polished look / feel combined with the great artwork top it off nicely. I suggest giving it a try if you're on the fence. It's free and I haven't been even tempted to spend a penny on it yet. The tablet version is better for this type of game IMO.

I actually somewhat regret trying it out because I know that I'm now hopelessly addicted.

  • Chrixian

I'm not an app developer, so what is the reasoning for a company releasing in these markets only to start?
