Hey sports fans, if you've been put off by EA's horrifying take on Madden this year, cross your fingers that 2K continues to retain the NBA license. NBA 2K14 just hit the New Zealand App Store ahead of tomorrow's launch of the console version of the game, and it comes with a $8.99 price tag instead of leaning on an annoying free to play energy mechanic.

NBA 2K14 should be available in the US App Store later tonight, and we'll have more coverage on the game in the upcoming days. In the meantime, first impressions should start flowing in on our forums which are worth following while you wait for the full worldwide release at 11:00 PM Eastern.

$8.99 you say? Hmm, I'd ask something about EA and schizophrenia but I'm sure we already know the answer.

    • sonof90s

why schizophrenia? This game is not from EA, it's from 2K Sports, they have been consistent with their premium model

        Hm, that'll teach me.

Looks good. Might get it on here but going to wait on console version for the PS4.

Although I have almost zero interest in basketball, I might purchase this just because they're giving it a premium price instead of being free with an energy mechanic. I used to love the old 2k football games way back before EA bought exclusive rights to all the NFL teams.

    Where the lite version at?

  • Taclys

I certainly hope this isn't as terrible as Madden! We could use some more good sports games.

I want to buy this but I already have 2k13 for my iPhone, I'm not sure how much more they could possibly improve on the graphics. This would probably be just another typical 'gimmick' improvement per year and roster update.

  • Mekklesack

    I want this! Gimme!

    Gamecontroller Support?

  • just0

Oh hell yeah!! No freemium bull. Love it and will support it.

I just hope the graphics aren't as horrible as 2k13 was.

    • bigrand1

      Agree with this!

  • ODMay

    I just got a $15 iTunes card yesterday. 😀

  • joshwa1

If they add controller support I'll buy it 🙂

This is one of the games that'll put the premium prices = better games myth out to pasture. Incidentally, I find it very amusing how 2K is being given a free pass for doing the same thing EA do, releasing the same game every year.
