278460_largerHeads up: Hunters: Episode One [$4.99 / $4.99 (HD)], the game that kinda put Rodeo Games on the map, is free (again) for a limited time. It's been offered up for the generous price of zero dollars a few times over this past year, but we're guessing a few of you may have missed out on those. Here's your chance to make good on that.

Hunters, by the way, is a turn-based strategy game that tasks you with taking contracts across the galaxy as a group of space mercenaries. It's got a vaguely Warhammer 40K type of feel to it with the weapon and armor designs, but more importantly, it's a very well-done, tactical strategy game that'll definitely give you some challenge and fun.

Hunters 2, the sequel to this, released in March 2012. It's pretty good, too, so consider giving that a shot whenever you get your fill of Episode One.

It's pretty damn good. In my view, the very first turn based strategy game that had it right.

Link to the game doesn't work over the TA-app

  • korkidog

Does the IAP hurt the game or purely optional?

    • vicsark

Totally optional, pretty well balanced without it. I guess it's a shortcut if you don't like playing ? πŸ˜‰

YES! I've been hoping for some more TBS to play after I started playing Warhammer and found out how much I liked it. Glad you guys posted this!

  • vicsark

Get it, great TBS by the guys who were hired to adapt Warhammer Quest

  • gmattergames

Hunters is superior to WH quest, (imho) which to me felt hollow.

  • Reignmaker

Already own Warhammer, so not feeling a huge pull to get the same game with a different skin.

    • BobGarrish

      Better game.

Strangely, I liked Hunters 1 better than Hunters 2. Not going to get Warhammer game bc its not that good, even tho I'm a fan of the genre.

Both Hunters games get repetitive, but the upgrade paths are nice & they ramp up in difficulty. Biggest differences are Hunters 2 has Aliens, a few 'personality' Hunters (ie custom -- but you can't customize them..!), and the skill upgr tree has changed -- worsened IMO.

I'd love for someone to take the Hunters 'look' and (wait, this is really different) do a strategic 'real life' game where you don't run around killing everything -- but rather competitively do regular real world activities. (Not every game needs to be a war simulation!!!)

Those old monochrome SSI games were amazing bc your char had a huge range of things they could do each turn. Same w/good Rogue-likes (current iOS fav is WazHack).
