4849Logo - Deus Ex The Fall copyJust a couple of days ago, Square Enix announced a new game in the Deus Ex series called Deus Ex: The Fall. It's set during the same timeframe as 2011's Deus Ex: Human Revolution and is a direct sequel to the novel 'Deus Ex: Icarus Effect'. Oh, and it's coming exclusively to mobile devices. And this made a lot of people pretty mad.

I get it, the Deus Ex series has a passionate fan base, and when Square Enix began teasing a new title most of them expected a new console or PC title, not a mobile game. However, as far as mobile games go, Deus Ex: The Fall looks mighty impressive. Today Squeenix released a new trailer showing even more in-game footage.

Whether you're excited or disappointed to see Deus Ex: The Fall arrive on mobile devices, one thing is certain: this is a highly anticipated title. Maybe you want it to be terrible, so you can say "Ha! I told you so! Now give me a PC game!" Or you want it to be good because you love Deus Ex and don't care what platform a new game in the series is on.

Either way, we'll be finding out soon as Deus Ex: The Fall will be playable at E3 next week, so add it to your TouchArcade [Free] app Watch List to get an alert when more news is posted or stop by the forums to give your own thoughts on this upcoming title.

I want to have deu sex with this game

    • Ben Norvell

      How mature!

  • flashbackflip

    Thanx for the heads-up!

I really don't care what platform it launches as i own all of them 😀

Played since original PC title and love cyberpunk settings!

Staying tuned for 'hands on' preview from E3!

'Maybe you want it to be terrible, so you can say "Ha! I told you so! Now give me a PC game!"'

Who's he talking about? Is this for real?

    • Ryan Bach

I think it's just a tongue-in-cheek way of acknowledging those of us who are disappointed DX: The Fall didn't turn out to be a full-blown console/PC title. I don't know anyone who actually wants the game to be bad just out of spite, though - if anything, we're worried that if it flops, Eidos might blame the franchise and kill it off rather than blaming the platform switch and making a sequel on PC instead.

      • PureRumble

But arent they gonna do separate version for mobiles, like they always do? I dont understand

      • Ryan Bach

At first, they just released some teaser images for "Deus Ex: The Fall" without explaining what it was. Everyone assumed it was a sequel to Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and would be on PC and consoles.

Now, it turns out "Deus Ex: The Fall" is an iOS only game. There is no PC/console game coming along with this one. That's why a lot of Deus Ex fans are so disappointed - we got ourselves hyped up for a new "real" Deus Ex game.

      • Maniacfive

        It's android as well.

      • PureRumble

Ah ok now i see. Thx for explaining 🙂

      • http://portablegamingregion.com/ PortableGamingRegion

Come on, even if it turns out to be the worst game ever no one's killing an established PC and console franchise over an unsuccessful mobile spin-off.

    • http://portablegamingregion.com/ PortableGamingRegion

You're forgetting that not everyone is as passionate about iOS games like people who frequent this site.

  • flashbackflip

Footage is looking almost the same quality as my PS3 version of Human Revolution, although i noticed a glitch in the moment while stabbing some dude in the back and a not-so-real motion capture while breaking the wall and breakin the neck of another dude....

But i think i can live with those

  • iammane

I'm a dad. I work full time with a nearly two hour commute. Even on the weekends when I do have time it's all dedicated to the baby now. Stuff like this is great news, in the last week I've spent upwards of 30 bucks on awesome ios games.

Regardless of platform I think we can all agree that we just want to play good games. We want to play games with good stories. I know I don't care much about the medium, but the fact my only gaming outlet is getting some love is pretty awesome..

    Looking forward to E3!!

    • orgaz

Totally agree! I'm in the same position as a new father.. I haven't been able to touch my 360 in over a month.. But the iPad has been my saving grace.. On the way to work is my new game time & im currently revisiting KOTOR.. Game experiences of this quality is what I'm looking for on a mobile platform and I'm a stoked that we get these kinds of high quality games. What I am over, is all the spoiled little IGN brats who try to destroy anything that doesn't fit their small minded little boxed up reality, Games like this recognise that the gaming community is far more diverse than it once was and in need of diverse options.

      • Maniacfive

Spoken for the truth. I've two 360's in the house, and an active WoW subscription, haven't had time to actually use any of that for gaming since Tomb Raider was released. The iPad is a saving grace. The ability to play serious games on my lunch break and journey, and even sat on the sofa so my fiancé at least can pretend we're enjoying the same nonsense on TV. 😀

  • B3nlok

I might be completely wrong but im getting a mass effect infiltrator vibe out of this. You know, the typical cheap spinoff with *intuitive* and oversimplified controls, more like a companion app ready for the inevitable e3 announcement Deux Ex new PC title.

    • Taclys

I was getting the exact same feeling. Even the camera angles, and cover based system seems about the same. Mass Effect wasn't too bad, by itself, but it wasn't great stuff either. Hopefully this one will be better!

      • pajman sarafzadeh

i hope not, Montreal Square is a pretty good team, this is not EA re-branded Bioware, i know some of the people on this team, they are passionate people, I cant image that they would willingly make a heartless port

      • Maniacfive

Seconded, Eidos Montreal seem really solid devs. Now this has been developed in partnership with Square Mobile, but lets hope that means the strengths of both.

As it goes I enjoyed ME: Infiltrator, was it 'Mass Effect' well, no, but it was an enjoyable romp in the ME universe nonetheless

    • orgaz

I'm thinking more Dead Space Vibe.. That was a great mobile crossover!

  • Protoman

Well, I love deus ex. At this point however, I've grown to hate Squenix and their rapetastic pricing schemes. Really on the fence about this one. I guess I'll have to see how much real money ill have to spend every time I need more armor or health or something else trivial they'll charge me in game for b

    • Duhbyo47

According to joystiq it's $6.99 for the game with optional IAP for extra credits ingame and that's it.

    • pajman sarafzadeh

Square Japan is overpriced, but the rest of the studios are reasonable. Square is a big company but is run as many small regional companies with a lot of freedom when it comes to pricing and product development.

    • Morgan01

I too was a big fan of the first Dues Ex. I've been turned off by Square Enix long ago. Compared to most IOS titles, their games have always been over priced, even on sale at half off. The also seem to mostly capitalize on past successes of older FF titles. Aside of the Chaos Ring series, newer titles has fallen flat. Maybe they can yet turn things around.

  • araczynski

the quality looks like the recently released pc version. which leaves me rather emotionally perplexed. Since i find that to be a notable accomplishment for the tablet version, while at the same time holding the opinion that the recently released pc version was a POS in terms of quality delivered. But no, can't say I care about platforms much anymore, slowly finding myself caring less and less about PC gaming, or console gaming, and just sticking more and more to the ipad :/

    • iammane

Yeah amen haha.. I was so amped to squeeze in time to play the new Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite... And they were... Ok. It was ok. I dunno. The convenience of being able to pick up a tablet and put it down because of any number of life reasons is great, and continue exactly where I left off more or less.

  • montanker

Yes please! I love this series to death!

By the way, has anyone else seen the obscene amounts of hate this game is getting elsewhere? Just because it's an iOs title people are already deeming it the death of the series and "worse than Invisible War"! I feel bad for the devs.

  • Maszek

    Who asked for this?

    • Bool Zero

I did! But I asked for the original Deus Ex, but I will take this!

    • orgaz

      I did too!

  • http://tarasis.net/ Robert McGovern

I'm seriously impressed with the look in the video. I hope to heck they can pull it off & have a fun game.

Looking forward to hands on reports & reviews.

  • BulkSlash

I'm really excited about this. I reckon if Eidos are willing to put money into making an iOS Deus Ex game and also have a Deus Ex CGI movie on the way then a "true" PC/console sequel must definitely also be in the works. It wouldn't surprise me if a sequel was announced at E3 with The Fall being announced now so that it doesn't get lost in the E3 melee.

With the Wii U version of Human Revolution on the way, I'm going to be playing a lot of Deus Ex on touch screens this year!

  • orgaz

10 years ago, People said Invisible war was the death of DeusEx because it was primarily designed for consoles.. Same kind of hate was spewed from PC users towards console owners.. Nothing new here.. Haters will Hate.
