Earlier this afternoon, Joseph and I spent some time with Beastie Bay [Free], the latest game from the simulation gurus over at Kairosoft. This is oversimplifying it, but Beastie Bay is sorta like what would happen if Sim City met Pokemon. In the game, you're tasked with collecting and beating up monsters while also building up a profitable and resource rich village that supports your pocket monster habit.

I'm pretty sure this is our longest TA Plays ever, and mainly that's because we spend a ton of time going over all the different mechanics. There's crafting, there's upgrading, there's collecting, there's exploring, dungeon-diving, looting, training -- it's nuts. Give the video a look, if you're curious:

Ahhhh another Kairosoft time sink that I will play till my eyes bleed. Gladly pay the IAP for the full version. Their games are always a blast.

I tried the game, it sucked, but i only spent 5 minutes with it.
Is this a brand new game, or another ancient old port?

How do you record your gameplay TouchArcade?

I believe I seen something either in 2012 or maybe it was as far back as 2011 about devices that plug into your iphone/ipad/ipod touch and will allow you to record what's on the screen.

To record using Ipad (maybe this work for the iphone and ipod) you need a couple of things. Buy Airserver from apple this will stream whats on the ipad direct to the pc, Buy FRAPS for the PC this is video capture software which capture the window screen of Airserver as its running on the PC. Also a good ext HD to record what you capturing as some video can be VERY VERY big.

I was leary of the "freemium" model they took this time but I can honestly say I never hit a pay wall. I purchased it to remove the ads and because portrait mode is awkward while charging. While I feel $4.99 is a little high compared to their other titles I'm really digging it so far. Lots of new gameplay twists to make this, what I feel is Kairosoft's most ambitious game to date.

Not very straight forward. 3/5 for me so far. I insta bought the IAP, ads were obnoxious. I have 3 pets but they're draining my wood and food so quickly.

      'Draining my wood' fnar fnar

      Insta-bought IAP $5 b/c ads were annoying?!?
Congrats -- you have ENCOURAGED ALL DEVs to make sub-par games with IAP for removable ads. Tsk tsk.

i would say this is a new game thats a cross between a lot of other games that they have done themselfs with a twist of pokemon as everyone keeps mentioning

Every single Kairosoft game is a port from either their PC games or cell phone games. Beastie Bay was originally released on Japanese cell phones and contained no in-app purchases as far as I know. That feature was only introduced in the Android and iOS versions. For what it's worth, out of the 6 remaining titles (counting both English and Japanese Android ones) still not released on iOS, Dream House Days is the only game that's freemium.

1000% agree. SUCKED! I'd give it 0 of 5 stars (which = install, test, say WTF?!?!, and delete!)
Everyone that says they paid $5 to get rid of ads makes me concerned at how many people will spend $5 on a sucky game to drop the ads...
It's like people who were happy to pay $16 to see Star Wars III (Revenge of the Sith (2005) and then say it was a good movie! Aggghhh!!!
Please PLEASE don't pay $5 for iPhone games that suck!!! (Just go buy new PS3 games at full price that suck... HA HA)
