I don't typically get too excited for games that are a pretty long ways out, but there are so many awesome things going on in this video for Dragon Runner that I just had to share it. Dragon Runner is yet another auto-runner game, but with a lot of unique things going for it. There's hand illustrated and animated visuals, giving it a unique look. Then there's the fact that you're running on the backs of giant sky dragons, which is pretty neat if you ask me. The game also switches to a behind-the-back skydiving game as you switch from one sky dragon to the next. Oh, and most important of all, the main character has an epic beard.

All this and more is explained in the following video, which does get a little behind-the-scenes-y at times but is still interesting, and it still shows a ton of gameplay from Dragon Runner.

The bummer part is that Dragon Runner is shooting for an early 2014 release, which is a long, long ways away in the world of iOS. If you happen to be going to Magfest this week, you can stop by and say hello to developer Cleaversoft and you'll be able to get your hands on the first demo version of Dragon Runner. Beyond that. it's going to be a long year ahead waiting for Dragon Runner, but we'll bring you any more news on its development in the meantime.

I die a little inside every time someone promises "depth" in one/two button games. Also, runners...

This game is honestly whats wrong with so much of iOS gaming. Another runner, with an art direction thats so confused as to what its trying to be...this guy was clearly just like "people like beards and dragons" and slapped some random garbage together. Pass.

I don't agree on a "runner" critique, since it is the best way to implement side scrollers on iOS (look at Rayman Jungle Run, Jetpack Joyride).
But the art is too confusing. I had hard time distinguishing backgrounds from foreground objects. They should really look into Mario's art style, where intensity/saturation of background layers is much lower than in foreground.

I'm curious why people groan when they hear the term "runner"? The alternative is to use a virtual joypad and using that is worse IMO. I know there's a lot of uninspired rip-offs but this game looks great. At least it's not doing the whole temple-run scenario again.

They need to change the color of the guys pants, at first I thought the guy wasn't wearing any since the shade is so close to his skin tone.

Any news on this? Is it still being released!

I've had this one on my 'Upcoming' Watch list since late 2012. Looks like this is still being worked on, but it's name has changed from Dragon Runner to Earth Night.

From the video clip I've just seen, it looks like there's an impressive overhead free-fall section between each side-scrolling, running-along-a-flying-dragon's-undulating-back level, with levels ending with you stabbing the dragon repeatedly in its eye (...).

Looks like a mixture of sci-fi with different mythologies' dragons so I'm still looking forward to this over a year & a half later.
The info only said it'll be released when it's ready.

I don't know if Team TA are able keep a check on old stuff like this that's yet to materialise (I guess there are tons of quality games that never actually make it to the AppStore) or if they have to wait for press releases from the devs. Either way, this is one I'll definitely keep checking up on.
