Probably one of my most anticipated games is the 10th Anniversary Edition of Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto: Vice City which is set to release later this week. While its sequel GTA: San Andreas eclipsed it in terms of size and variation, many gamers have a soft spot for Vice City due to its incredible storyline and '80s-soaked nostalgia and soundtrack, myself included.

Rockstar released a trailer for the 10th Anniversay Edition of Vice City last week, which didn't show actual in-game footage of the iOS version but got me all hyped up for the game nonetheless.

Today, the developer posted to their blog the first screens of the game running on iOS, and it looks to be a pretty massive improvement over the original.

As you can see, the visuals have received an incredible facelift. More detailed character models and textures as well as improved lighting effects really make GTA: Vice City pop on iOS. Rockstar also mentions "new and more precise firing and targeting options" and it will be really interesting to see what those are, as Vice City's gunplay and combat always was pretty clunky. Other than that it appears to use the same set of virtual buttons that worked surprisingly well in the iOS release of Grand Theft Auto 3 [$4.99] last year.

This Thursday really can't come soon enough for me or the excited folks in our forums, and we'll have much more on Grand Theft Auto: Vice City when it hits the App Store.

If it's done, what's keeping them from releasing the game? App Store rules? Anyways can't wait for 12/6

The real question is, how is the chopper gonna handle? And by that, I mean helicopter

I really cannot wait to get my hands on this. It's by far my favourite GTA game bar none.

Anyone notice the map in the screenshots is always showing the same place? Probably just a bug, but it reminds me that I know the streets of Vice City better than where I live!

Makes me think these are just comps. Either way, looks great and I can't wait to play it. I'm with you, Vice City is the best!

Huh. The radar seems to be in the wrong place in the screenshots. You can tell in the one with the blue Infernus, it's clearly driving down Ocean Beach yet the radar looks like it's near the docks. Just an observation 🙂 looks amazing nonetheless.

I haven't played a GTA game in a while, the last I played was GTA4 on ps3. However, I have played San Andreas previously, although I always found that I lacked the stick skills to truly be great at the game.
    So, my questions are:
Will the controls be more difficult to pick up on a touchscreen (iPad)?
Will there be a difficulty setting making it more forgiving (i.e. easier enemies, more time on time trials, etc)?

It's good to see decent foliage textures. GTAIII's textures for tree leaves was terrible with too much compression.

GTA3 went down to 69p after a week or two after release, so if you can wait like me a few weeks down the line it'll be cheap!
