Angry Birds Star Wars is an actual, real game that you'll be able to play this November 8, across iPhone, iPad, Android, PC, and Mac. Earlier this morning, Lucasfilm and Rovio confirmed their upcoming "collaboration" that'll see more than just a video game hitting digital shelves; A toy line ranging from action figures to plushes is also planned, and we'll see other stuff like shirts and costumes.

The video game will feature the original cast of Angry Birds, except dressed up as Star Wars heroes. The red bird will play Luke Skywalker, the yellow bird Han Solo, and the black bird a Sith lord. Rovio says that we'll seeing more of the game in the coming weeks, but it's probably safe to assume that Angry Birds Star Wars will play pretty similarly to the other main Angry Birds titles.

    God help us all...

    • Firetruck94

Who knows? The might brace out? It could be an endless runner

  • MarkyMarc

Ooohh goodness. I did not expect them to release another game so quickly after the 'Bad Piggies' debut. Either way, added to the watch list. I am interested..

  • chamuscao

/Spoiler/ Darth Pig is the bird's father!!

    • TheWhiteLights

  • Isaacquartz

Rovio has gone to the dark side...

  • Tresu

    This sounds awful.

  • David Whittle

Angry Birds (Space?) with a Star Wars skin?

    • swarmster

      I assume.

Angry Birds Rio : Angry Birds :: Angry Birds SW : Angry Birds Space

Also safe assumptions: no universal version, no iCloud support.

  • Deixa

This is ridiculous, absolute joke. What's next?

    Angry Birds Expendables 2
    Angry Birds Taken 2
    Angry Birds Total recall
    Angry Birds Looper
    Angry Birds Paranormal activity

    • Schuyler

Next thing you know, they'll make Angry Birds Rio!

    • mattriffle

I would totally buy Angry Birds Paranormal Activity.  You should submit that idea to them. 🙂

      • ImJPaul

I second the angry birds PA. Sounds awesome. Hahaha

    • Jay G

I want Angry Birds Evil Dead...Come get some!

  • Deixa

Think I may need to send Chuck Norris to have a talk at Rovio. Probably get pecked to death by the birds.

    • Karzay

Interesting idea. A Chuck Norris bird. Instead of knocking boards over, he breaks them or considering his age, maybe the boards break him...

      • ImJPaul

No. The Chuck Norris bird would destroy the level and make your screen turn white. Deeming your iPhone useless. There are certain things that just weren't meant to be. No human was meant to toy with such things.

      • Karzay

You are probably right. I heard the fastest way to connect with someone over a great distance isn't a phone call, but with Chuck Norris's fist.

  • Shinsaku

You figure that these two cash cows would get together... Rovio and George Lucas. Regardless, I'm interested since I am a Star Wars fan. It even gets released right before my birthday!

  • Emyl Merzoud

Black Bird is supposed to be Obi-Wan Kenobi. He's the bird we see in the teaser trailer too.

  • Colten Moore

With respect to Rovio, why is this not just a re-skin/IAP within Angry Birds Space?

    • Nate

Easy.  Because orders of magnitude more people will buy it as a stand-alone app than would pay for it as an IAP within ABS.  The only point of releasing something like this is to make money, not to break any new ground in game or level design, and therefore they're going to release it in the way that makes the most money.  Why wouldn't they?

  • disqusto

Rovio definitely jumped the shark - I think the real jump has been done with the Green Day levels some week ago.

  • Drizzt79

May the pork be with you.

  • Deixa

Rovio don't know what else to do with the game so all they come up with is, changing the art and move a plank of wood from left to right of the screen and call it Angry Birds Star Wars then boom on the AppStore within a couple of weeks

  • skeletonlord

Will probably grab this when it comes. Only five weeks and its here.

  • kozz84

The Angry Birds money train is still rolling...

  • Respox

When I was a kid, we got to fulfill our Star Wars fantasies with awesome games like X-Wing, and TIE Fighter on our PCs. I pity today's generation of Star Wars fans who have to get games like this, that are nothing but cheap and obvious money grabs. The saddest part is that a bunch of people will still fall for it, and greedy developers will continue to shove crap onto the App Store.

Yes, I pity them as well, but mostly for being Star Wars fans in 2012. Think of it this way, this game is sure to set up young Star Wars fans for a lifetime of money-grubbing disappointments to come.

    • 1Fcm

I'll never understand why people get so worked up about these kinds of cross-over titles. As a very long term tried and true Star Wars fan, I can see how something like this would only help bring a younger generation closer to the SW brand. Not every SW game needs to be an MMO or RPG (we already get those). Just because Rovio takes their hugely popular IP and makes a licensed Star Wars tie-in does not make them a 'greedy developer'. It's called a sound business decision. Is it a money grab? Of course it is! Who wants to be in business and not make money? Anyone who has a successful (or even non-successful) iOS app would more than welcome this kind of opportunity. I say good for Rovio, they are successful and without developers like them (and all the others) we wouldn't have the high quality App Store we have now. As to whether its crap or not, I do not know since I have never played it, (im sure you havent either) so I will wait and see.

      • Respox

Of course you want your business to make money. But there is a big difference between A) making a profit from a game, and B) making a game so you can profit. The prime example of B are all those movie tie-in games that are almost always garbage, but are released anyway so they can capitalize on the popularity of the movie. This is the same type of situation. Even though Star Wars and Angry Birds have nothing to do with each other, Angry Birds is immensely popular, so they just get an intern to make a pig that looks like Darth Vader, and the stupid fanboys will shell out millions anyway. If you can't see that this is just a quick-and-dirty cash grab and want to delude yourself into thinking Lucasarts has any intention of making an actual good game, then I feel sorry for you.

      • 1Fcm

Please explain the... 'big difference between A) making a profit from a game, and B) making a game so you can profit'... Those two things are exactly the same thing. Either way you are looking to profit from a game. No matter how you word or emphasize it, you are looking to profit from the game. The only difference might be when someone sells something that's an obvious cloned game. But that's not the case here.

And guess what... Lucas Arts made those Tie Fighter and X-wing games to profit from fan boys who were looking to live out their SW fantasies. Lucas Arts released those same games that you and I hold dear as the same money grabs you are so upset about. You can't tell me they made them for any other reason. If they wanted to just give the fans something extra with no intentions of making money then why not give them away for free? But giving something away for free isn't why they are in business. Those games may or may not have been of better quality, but the intentions are the still the same.

I think the real issue here is that your upset at how the license is being used and you have every right to be. But don't confuse that with developer greed. Who knows, you may be surprised and actually want to play it. As a SW fan myself I'm curious to see what they did.

  • rotopenguin

Han flung his orbular body at Greedo first, dagnabit!

(I can't think of two franchises that deserve each other better. From the "Joseph Campbell is deaaaad" prequels, to the mindless "guess the right pixel" game-busywork.)

  • DotComCTO

Could be interesting *IF* this is more than just a re-skin of characters and levels. I think somehow integrating force powers and weapons could be interesting. For example, a character could use "force push" to blast away part of a structure when descending from the air, or it could be used to push other objects such as the TNT boxes into a structure. So, something along those lines where the SW universe is more integrated into the *gameplay* rather than the just look could make this compelling.

    • Micah Peterson

This was my first thought as well.  I own all of the Angry Birds games and have yet to play one that felt like it didn't bring something new to the table.  With the universe of Starwars to toy with, I expect nothing less from this video game.

If you've played any of the Lego Starwars games you'll know that the massive amounts of characters and locations was a ton of fun and there is a lot of potential here for various abilities to come into play as you play through the Starwars storyline.

Just for the love of everything holy, please make this universal with iCloud support.

  • iqSoup

All I can say is I hope this doesn't recycle the same old gameplay. Don't get me wrong it was fun while it lasted but I think I'll puke if I see another Angry Birds with a new skin but the same beaten to death slingshot mechanic. What I love about Bad Piggies is they actually did something new.

  • Firetruck94

Yoda is rolling over in his grave right now...

  • Karzay

Meh. Let them re-skin their game all they want. Some people love the simple mechanics of Angry Birds and changing the aesthetics is a simple way of pleasing those fans.

  • JimmyTW

Would be fantastic if it was universal or had iCloud, there is no excuses nowadays for anything else!

  • Brian Boulnois

and the milk truck rolls on

  • qpcloudy

Shut up and take my $.99

    • Laszlo Tuss

      Shut up and die silently

  • ImJPaul

Luke Han and a Sith Lord working together to destroy pigs?! I don't understand why good guys and bad guys r on the same side. Excited for this so I will try not to take it too seriously. At the same time, don't ruin my Star Wars.

  • Laszlo Tuss

This better be an update for AB: Space...

    • drloony

      Die troll

      • Laszlo Tuss

Shut up and pay dump ass

      • Brimah

Oh no! They are stealing another dollar from me for a completely separate new game that for all we know will be as different as space was when it came out. What people expect these day from a game developer is so messed up.

  • NoahDavid

    Oh my God. That's great!

  • Peetree777

Are we sure that this isn't just George Lucas rereleasing the trilogy and this isn't just his latest "original vision".

  • Brimah

Agree with others that the black bird looks more like Obi wan. Was it confirmed by Rovio that its a Sith lord? Darth Vader looks like a pig so that makes sense.

  • frank gooden

Why is everyone complaining about Angry Birds jumping the shark? Isn't this the bazillionth Star Wars tie-in?

  • putermcgee

this is the new 'it runs doom'...whether I'm talking about star wars themed things, or angry birds is your call.

looking forward to Lego angry birds, a gta4 angry birds skin mod, and a video of hitler reacting to it by the end of the week.

  • wizard96

I can already tell that George Lucas will find a way to ruin this.

Jar jar birds? Cgi b.s? Somehow letting he pigs shoot you first, and missing from 5 inches away? There Is a world of possibility to screw up two already weak franchises!
