E3 2011: 'Sonic & Sega Allstars Racing' Hands-On

posted June 10th, 2011 7:14 PM EDT by Eli Hodapp in E3 Expo 2011, Games, iPad Games, iPhone games, iPod touch games, Racing, Upcoming Games

Do you find yourself craving Mario Kart on your iPhone, but then are depressed every time you realize that there isn't a Nintendo logo on the device, making such a thing hilariously unlikely? Well, Sega might be offering the next best thing. Sonic & Sega Allstars Racing takes a load of hints from Mario Kart, and utilizes their array of Sega characters instead of the Nintendo favorites. It's got multiplayer, loads of power-ups, a cool drifting system, and more.

Check it out in motion:

Gameloft's Shrek Kart [$4.99 / Free / HD] didn't really scratch that Mario Kart itch how I wanted it to, but I'm thinking Sonic & Sega Allstars Racing might. Stay tuned for more details from Sega.

I've heard nothing but good things about this game on other platforms, mostly by Mario Kart fans.  I can't wait.

A good cart racer on iDevices? OH MY GOODNESS.

At least I didn't hate Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 2, I think I played it for about 25 hours, mostly online.
But I played Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing about 70 hours on my Wii, it's surely the 2nd best fun kart racer on Wii, but can't quite keep up with Mario Kart.

Day one purchase for me. I got tired of shrek kart racing pretty quickly, hopefully this one will perform better and have more lasting appeal.

To be honest, I doubt that the game will be playable online. The girl in the vid actually said something like that, but I think she meant Game Center achievemens or something like that. Wouldn't be surprised if it only features local multiplayer. I mean, this is SEGA.

Looks polished and fun! Why or why did she pick tails.

Split screen on iPad and iPhone/iPod remotes would make this game a winner! :)

How I loved those split-screen Wacky Wheels games! :)

Kudos for making this Universal! :)

"Takes advantage of the retina display so the graphics are really nice on this iPad 2"
    Eh yea, ok, right... :p
Looks nice though. I do prefer when games aren't pushing the gas pedal for me but oh well :p

Lol, I was going to comment on that statement but it looks like you beat me too it. I believe that just invalidated everything else she just told us about the game. She clearly has no idea what she is talking about.
