Official word has come in: World of Goo for iPod Touch and iPhone is arriving on April 14, 2011. As we mentioned in a previous post, this particular version of the game will hit at an agreeable price point, a mere 99 cents, for the first 24 hours. After this period, the price will rocket to $2.99.

Also, as we outlined before, World of Goo for iPad will receive an update alongside the release of the smaller handheld versions, making it a Universal app. So, no, 2D Boy won’t be making you pay an additional 99 cents if you’ve purchased the game before, though, really, you should figure out a way to thank these dudes. This is a fun and inventive game, almost perfectly ported to the iPad. Our review goes in-depth about its controls and the mechanics so check it out if you’re out of the loop.

What remains to be seen with these specific versions, though, is if the smaller screen size does the game any favors. I have a hunch that those of you out there with large fingers might be in for a rough time, but that’s just speculation on my part. We’ll check out the full game when it hits this April 14. Oh, and before you check out, take a gander at this crypticmessage 2D Boy left on its blog:

Warning: We have discovered a strange new character who mysteriously appears after the end of the game. This new character seems to appear only in the iOS versions of World of Goo. But upon further investigation, there seems to be a good reason for that.

Hmmm...

Can't wait for this. Hope the filesize isn't too massive though, I have zero space at the moment...

So the iPad version will be universal, will the iPhone version be universal too?
Or will it only work for the smaller divices?

I think 99 cents is definitely an agreeable price, pretty much highway robbery. and to think, its been its been a year and a half since it was originally announced for iPhone/iPod touch, prior to being "cancelled"

I payed $20 for this when it dropped on Wii, it was so easily worth the price. I feel like I'm cheating 2D Boy for only paying 99 cents, is there a way to donate $19 more dollars to them?? lol

    • Cowboysfreetyme

It cost $15 on Wii. Just sayin'.

Like I needed even more reason to wait until Thursday haha now I not only get a replacement for my iPhone but World of Goo, it's gonna be a good Thursday.

It's smarter just to buy the HD version, that way if you ever get an iPad you won't have to re-purchase. Right?

The Appstore is going to be a confusing, fragmented place in ten years...

    I'm staying up 'til 11.

  • Bruab

What a confusing release. I paid $10 for the iPad version, and I just got dinged another $1 for the iPhone version, since I guess the Universal version isn't out yet and there's no way to tell ahead of time if I'm going to be billed or not. Thanks guys.
