If you're one of the millions of people out there who have found themselves gingerly stroking their new iPad 2's lately waiting for some more games to truly unleash the beast on, today is your lucky day. The guys from Trendy Entertainment dropped us a note and let us know that Dungeon Defenders: First Wave now fully takes advantage of everything the iPad 2 has to offer. All you've got to do is download the latest version of Dungeon Defenders and turn the somewhat confusingly named "video upscale percentage" slider all the way up.

Doing so makes Dungeon Defenders look and play like this:

It might be a little hard to see in the video, but the difference is insane. Performance on the original iPad was always lackluster (to put it kindly) and it's crazy to see what a difference the iPad 2 hardware makes. Unfortunately, all of our original criticisms of the game's UI still stands, and even though it performs substantially better, it's still incredibly clunky to play due to the incredibly complicated on-screen interface.

Regardless, the game is on sale for a buck for the next few days so if you're looking for something to try on your iPad 2 or have just been looking to check out Dungeon Defenders, now is as good of a time as any.

Nah, it's not a good time to jump. Just wait another week, and wait until another character loss or other issue pisses off the last 10 people playing, and then the game will be free on iOS as well (it's already free on Android, they claim because of the "piracy" there...lol).

Might check it out on my slow Android device before committing to getting this on the iPad 2.

      Thanks for the info.

BTW - They didn't add or do anything special for the iPad2, the dual core code was already there due to their optimizations (and advertising) through Nvidia/Tegra2.

They have even stated on their forums that the iPad 2 won't get any special content or anything to it. It just runs better because it happens to be a dual core, and I honestly don't even think they PLANNED on the iPad2 to run like that, but once they saw it running so well, of course they will now claim it's best to play on iPad2 (when just a month ago, it was all "Tegra2, Tegra2..."

Well, the game has a ton of potential, and I was originally one of the people who was sure that the game would end up one of the top mobile games of all time. Unfortunately, the issues have caused a total lack of an online community (most players who even enjoyed the game don't play as much anymore).

The issues with controls aren't THAT bad, but when you take into consideration on iPhone 3/4 you will have slowdown and performance issues, the control issues get worse. Basically, you have a virtual "Wheel" to turn and move your character with, but it's clumsy/clunky and just trying to turn yourself around in a tight corner can lead to death (say if lava is on each side, very annoying).

There are also still some camera issues (you place a tower and the camera always WHIPS 180 degrees afterwards and then tries to adjust, it's very nauseating to me. The wildly spinning out of control camera has been mostly fixed, however.

There are things in the game that stand out, though, which is why it's such a shame how it's all unfolded. And now that Trendy is back to focusing on the console/pc versions, I'm not sure what would even be done for the mobile version now. They definately will not be changing the UI, or the trade system. They have said as much online, and since the game isn't selling well on mobiles they aren't going to put any real effort into it unless somehow it picks up a hell of a lot of steam.

I'd say how the game exists now, is pretty much how it's going to remain. If you have an iPad2, and don't mind possibly losing your characters after an update (even tho we were promised this would never happen again, yesterday I lost my save AND backup due to the update), and don't mind what is essentially just a loot grind with minimal story, you might like it. As pissed off as I was getting, I still came back to try the game here and there, because i WANT to like it. But the truth now is, i really don't...

Also freemium on Android, if you're into that sort of thing. May be a sign of things to come.
