We've been following Gameloft's upcoming Zelda-esque game Sacred Odyssey: Rise of Ayden for quite a while now as they've been slowly releasing more videos and other details. The latest launch trailer reveals even more gameplay along with the release date of February 3rd. Now, if you're a regular around here, you know that this actually means that the game will hit New Zealand's App Store early tomorrow morning, then filter out to the rest of the App Stores throughout the day.

Anyway, check out the new trailer:

We plan on taking a closer look at the game as soon as we can get our hands on it. As I mentioned before, I'm a huge fan of the Zelda series, and seem to have an unnatural liking to anything with similar gameplay mechanics. I've got my fingers crossed that Gameloft nails this style of gameplay in Sacred Odyssey: Rise of Ayden, but we'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out.

I have a feeling it will fall desperatley short of a great zelda game :'(

Anyone else thinking 'Hero-of-Sparta-2-with-a-knight-theme'? The life bar, the sword, the buttons, the character animation...not necessarily a bad thing, but I doubt it's as revolutionary or as Zelda-like as some of us want it to be.

I don't know, I've always wanted to banish somebody to the outer-dark...

  • Deamon34

Damn!! I wanted Star Front on Thursday, not this. Oh well.

  • E_Domina

I'm not sure this is exactly "zelda" but it looks decent

  • Jimrakete

it looks great - a must have :)))

When's gameloft going to release their StarFox 64 clone? :D

    • Dvnewman17mail

      they have its star battlion

  • HelperMonkey

This is beginning to look a lot less like Zelda to me. I mean, he rides a horse... But?...
Meanwhile, with Link, the Zelda series is anchored by a distinct and likable main character. Whoever Gameloft's generically medieval-looking, awkwardly-animated protagonist is, he's no Link.
Still, it could be a great game. I just don't think that the glimpses we've seen should give anyone reason to dream of an iOS Zelda.

I don't know why everybody compares it to Zelda. it's simply a 3rd person Adventure game like a LOT on all console. For me it still is a no buy. Gameloft does a great job in general with their racing and FPS but for a lot of thei titles (including this one) the characters and storyline are uninteresting and lack some personality. At first Gameloft had mind-blowing graphics but now in 2011 (especially since the Unreal engine) their engine looks really first gen (even with Retina display support).

  • GodSon

Looks like a re-skinned Hero of Sparta. Linear as well(compared to Zelda with no open world???). I think I'll pass for the sake of not ruining Zelda...

  • Coops58

    Look! at :35 I swear I see a Navi

  • Mooro

This does not look good at all. I really didn't like Hero of Sparta 1 or 2 and this looks like more of the same.

  • LBG

Why is everyone comparing this to Hero of Sparta? This game looks much different. For a start it's in third person like Aralon whereas HoS is from a top down perspective with a fixed camera. Then there's also the open world, horse riding and puzzle elements which aren't in HoS. The only part that looks remotely similar is the combat, but it will probably feel quite different.

I think it looks ok but I fear like most Gameloft clones it will lack soul of any sort, I would really love this to be the iOS Zelda but I think were hoping a bit too much to be honest.

    • Nivaek

My thoughts exactly. These games just have no SOUL, the developers just want to make a lot of money, but they don't put actual effort and dedication to making a good game. Actually, most iOS games are like this aren't they? sad...

    looks like shit

Has Gameloft ever made a good game? Every time I buy one of their games, I am greatly dissapointed!

      Dungeon Hunters 1/2 was awesome

I just finished playing Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the N64, and this new Gameloft game (Secret Odyssey: Rise of Ayden) looks much better graphically. Hell, Secret Odyssey almost looks better than the Ocarina of Time remake on the 3DS. So, Secret Odyssey already has good graphics (for a handheld) so far, lets just hope the story is good too.

Damn, this looks like a really good Dreamcast game...that's not necessarily a bad thing for a phone.

Gameloft really need to up their game. This one at least isn't a blatant ripp off of other games, but instead it just looks generic, and very, very, very low poly.

A good example of how to do a Zelda type game, but do it well and make it look unique was Darksiders. It had it's own art style and was nicely polished. Gameloft's efforts by comparison just look cheap and generic, with poor animation, no personality, and no polish.

Post Infinity Blade this kind of stuff just doesn't cut it.

looks like the first Zelda 64.. hmm ok

"IN A WORLD FASHIONED FROM GOD'S FLESH
A DEMON IS WILLING TO EMBRACE CHAOS"

Seriously, they need to work on their sales pitch.

  • Khairon

I prefer the upcoming Devil May Cray 4.
