If like me you've been wondering what in the world happened to EA's Mirror's Edge following our preview late last year, we just found our answer in this evening's App Store push of new iPad titles.

Mirror's Edge currently holds the title of most expensive iPad game, weighing in at $14.99. It's unclear at this point what if anything has changed from the iPhone version we got a look at. Needless to say, this is going to be one of the first games we download once we all get our iPads on Saturday morning.

    IS THIS A JOKE??
    15$ ?!?!?
WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE WORLD

    • Adams Immersive

I know—when did games get so cheap? $15 is nothing—I just spent that on dinner :D

Still, it’s more than other iPad games seem to be costing, and I predict the price will drop.

And the quality of the game is what matters. Is it worth playing? Truly great, even? If so, $15 is worth it to me—but I’ll be glad to pay less if it drops :) If it’s not that great, then even $5 would make me think twice.

    • Brian

Complaining about $15? Have you ever even bought a retail game?

    • Zc456

DS & PSP games cost about $20 to $40, and they're screens small. So this is considerably cheap.

    • Jacob

      thats heaps pricey ..

I hope, there is still an iPhone version coming.
And I guess, I really have to live with the fact, that TouchArcade will be an iPad site in the next month... meh...

      Life could be worse...

      • Ender

        Seconded.

    • Adams Immersive

I suppose they could simply cover all of Apple’s touch gaming devices, rather than just one. We’ll see.

      • 5duc29

What about a separate page called iPad :p like Home, Forums, Submit, and New Games. I don't like it either. It would get too crowded.

    • noah

Site's that don't change with the times get replaced by other sites.

Case-in-point... Facebook innovated where Myspace didn't. People flocked to Facebook. If TouchArcade doesn't start covering iPad games too, another site will pop up that will, and people will move over to sites that have the information they want.

"Multiplayer modes designed specifically for the ipad"

Well, let's see if this and anything else justifies the increased price tag...
I'm not saying that $15 is expensive, but it is 50% more than EA's typical A-title entry price.

I guess they're trying to catch all the initial purchases at a high price because the selections aren't as great, kind of like Supermonkey ball 1 did when the app store first opened.

    • dagamer34

Except the quality that was in Super Monkey Ball took a while to be in other apps.

    • mike

      you honestly believe that?

if anything the prices will go out, as devs make beefier and beefier apps (as they get, you know, iPads)

Yes, they sell a 4 dollar iPhone game as a first wave 14 dollar fanboy game...
And they will score, for sure. From dev/publisher standpoint: the right choice.

Is the iPhone version ever coming out? I want the game so bad.

C&C for iPad. Awesome. I don't think I can wait a year to buy this...

I think RTS games will be perfect for the iPad.

EA just made me a saaaaad panda. Hope the game turned out to be great :(

And when one little panda puts his furry little willy in another panda's ear, that makes me a very sad panda.

I'm betting this is the reason for the delay in the iPhone/iPod release, so it doesn't steal sales away from the more expensive iPad version. I hope we see the iPhone version on Saturday!

So this is why the iPhone version of Mirror's Edge hasn't come out yet? They put it on hold to make a super expensive iPad version? lol. Gotta make that moneys!

I hate it when companies try to take advantage of early adopters. Not much of a selection, so they squeeze everthing from their fanbase. For $15 it better at least be a universal application, if it's not, EA needs a big smack in the face...I definitely won't be buying it if it won't work on my iPhone as well. I just wish other developers would follow IUGO's lead with making their apps universal apps and not cheat their fanbase making them buy to separate apps for the same OS. Having to make your customers pay for the same game twice on the same OS is rotten.

The Ipad is inferior to a laptop so it wouldn't run Cnc red alert very well.

I don't like that devs are pushing ipad releases and aiming for 0.01% of the potential market whilst missing out on the 99.9% of iPod/iPhone users. With the hundreds of 'hd' titles with higher prices naively rolled out for on launch I wonder if ipad owners are willing to spend an extra 100+ usd on big versions of their games on top of their purchase. It will be interesting to see.

    • modfan

As if C&C needed a lot of processing power anyways, the iPad is more than capable especially with it's A4 processor

      • Omg

The CPU is horrible compared to a normal laptop which can run cnc 4 whereas the ipad has the iPhone ver with a bigger screen. Take ur pick lol

    • http://mayblogmaynot.blogspot.com Maniacfive

your argument is invalid. its like comparing a laptop to a desktop machine. a laptop can play CnC 4, but its less comfortable to play when I'm sat on the john, iPad version wins in that regard.

      • omg

Thats a good valid argument you have there. I never considered that being able to play a skirmish game of command and conquer whilst taking a s*** is a good reason to buy an iPad instead of a laptop.

Wasn't this game changed to a side-scroller because of the limited screen real estate of the iPhone/Touch? I would have thought EA could have reverted to the original 1st person version now it's an iPad exclusive game?

    • Omg

Yeah the original 1st person is for a games console the graphics and CPU fir that. Remember the ipad has the capabilty of an iPhone but with a bigger screen there is no way it can even cope with running anything close to a modern console game.

      • MrMuesli

        good point: )

From that video, it looks like they made the right decision. That looked like a piece of junk game I wouldn't pay $0.99 for.

iphone's version is still coming, look on ea.com on the iphone/ipod touch page. but I don't like what i saw, only for OS 3.2... I was sure of this; the game was delayed to match an update. and who's gonna have to buy another OS ? yep ipod touch's users.

Nobody found the constant interruption more than infuriating? Is that actual gameplay advice the game is dispensing (all the time, not to mention) or just loading screen in the name of advices?

Ya, but don't forget retail games are made out of DVD or ds memory card wich costs to make and it has to be packaged then also shipped everything costs them money that you eventaully pay in the price of the game, these games don't need material to be mass produced, there digital easily so less costy to make, it is cheap compared to retail games yes but u gotta see why it cheaper and why it can be cheaper. Build a good game sell each $4 and if it's really good it will bring allot of money into your pocket

Anyone who wants this game for the iPhone/iTouch, should perhaps go to EA.com and make yourself heard. I just went ahead and shot off a request to them to simply release the iPhone version that is certainly completed already. They probably will wait until iPad sales taper off. But they could still decide to cancel it if no one pipes up that they want it.
