Namco has unveiled new details about their upcoming action adventure game Garters & Ghouls.

Unearth the strange and undying world of Garters & Ghouls! Control and command the newly-dead Marie Dupois as she battles the minions of The Thrum and horrors beyond description! With over 25 levels, randomized level generation and downloadable content, the action never dies!

Based on the screenshots released, the game appears to be a dual-stick survival shooter the likes of which we've seen before, but wrapped in a pretty extensive story and with a progressive level design. There also appears to be a wide variety of locations presented in the game.

This teaser video just shows some of the artwork, but no actual gameplay:

Namco is slowly releasing the background story to the game as well as character art.

The following screenshots show more details of the actual gameplay:

Looks like iDracula but with a story and breasts. ;)

I liked iDracula. It, along with GeoDefense were the games that started my bad addiction to Apps.

    I'll be watching this one.

just what the iphone needs!!! another top down shooter…

  • B34$T says:

Well I think I'll pass unless it eventually goes free. I already have 8 topdown dual stick shooters for my ipod.

This looks a lot like iDracula. I really like the graphics style. Any word on when it would be out?

  • Muggin says:

If it adds items and leveling it would be a nice addition to this style of game, otherwise it is rewrapped idracula, alive4ever, etc…

  • Ujn Hunter says:

Capcom is going to be thrilled with that Title for sure…

    • Twitchfactor says:

Yeah, no doubt! I was immediately grabbed by the title thinking, "Oh hell yes, a new Ghost'n'Ghouls'n'Goblins (or even a port of the PSP game) for my iPhone!"

As for "not another" blah blah game… well, don't buy it. Pretty simple. I didn't buy any of the other ones. I just bought iDracula, so there! :P

We want TEKKEN, k thx bye…

  • Daniel says:

Not another iDracula. Bring Ridge Racer! There already is a mobile version of it. Just port :)

  • arta says:

At least this is gonna actually be a full fledged story game instead of just a fancy survival mode shooter…

  • I would have liked to see some gameplay footage in the vid. The screenshots look fun, remind me of some sort of SNES zombie masher.

  • Parker says:

First thing I though of when I looked at it was iDracula. I'll pass.

  • untraceable says:

another piece of shit from namco romania or kosovo

  • TKO says:

I don't get the comparison to iDracula .. this one looks like it's actually built around a story. If so, this would then be the *first* dual-stick isometric survival shooter with a story. All the others seem to have forgotten the story bit (MiniGore still being the worst culprit), and when they finally tacked one on, it felt really tacked on. (surprise surprise.)

And besides .. it's got breasts. Instant purchase there. ;)

    I love artwork :D it's a bit like Arcanum which I love too :)

  • Stormchild says:

Looks like iDracula — which was fun for about 5 minutes, then deleted from my iPod.

    • eugekava says:

Having levels rather than one survival mode is an improvement on iDracula. Artwork looks very good, it all hinges on gameplay.

    • TKO says:

Exactly! Having real levels and a story is the key here. ..iDracula couldn't get away from being a survival mode at its core. That was its real failing.

  • MrMister says:

Oh lawds, is that sum iDracula clone?

  • br1an says:

I know it's not a Capcom game, but I would've gone with the name: "Gals 'n Ghosts".

    Huh? Anyone? No?

  • TKO says:

I don't get why "Ghouls & Garters" didn't cross their mind. Swap the two words and it's suddenly a much more comfortable thing to say. Sounds a little more like the Capcom naming that I'm sure they're trying to sound like too. (Fortunately I don't think there's anything Capcom can do about it: the game isn't a 2d platformer, there's no knight/princess story, they didn't use "n" instead of "and", and there's no "Ghosts" in the name – which is a generic word, so they don't have any legal sway there. Nicely done naming.) :)

  • skamando says:

    Wassup, iDracula ripoff?

  • arta says:

On second thought, the artstyle of the font, lifebar, joysticks, radar and even enemies do look strikingly similar to iDracula. I wouldn't be surprised to learn this was started shortly after iDracula came out, went on a shelf for a few months, then was brought back out upon the success of Alive 4-ever.

  • LifeLibertyPursuit says:

I think the last screen shot says it all…

  • gospel says:

I really enjoyed iDracula way back. It is still one of those games that I wish they would improve on. This looks interesting but I think these kind of games need something more about it than just walking in random directions, picking up powerups, etc. There needs to be more strategy.

  • Thor says:

    Looks awesome!

  • Haste says:

Garters & Ghouls is live on the App store WOOOOTTTT!!
