There needs to be a way to fix the spam on the forums. I can't browse it anymore because I want IMPRESSIONS not 99 pages of redundant questions or comments.

I agree. I wish people would refrain from making completely impression-free and information-free posts. Why do they think that other people need to know they are "Downloading now!"

      Who cares?

This type of thing completely undermines enjoyment and usefulness of the forums.

(I think it comes from over-zealous parents convincing their children that anything and everything they say is a jewel to be treasured.)

It's called comment threads and peer moderation. Look to Slashdot or Digg for how they should be set up. Once forum topics (threads) commonly surpass 15-20 posts, the phpBB-style forums are no longer practical, and the only real solution is to add support for threaded comments, peer moderation of comments, and defaulting the view to sort the comment threads by most highly moderated to least.

Wow. I'm not one to be picky, but they might want to change the graphic on the control stick. It looks identical to the PSP's analog nub. It looks like they took a picture of one and painted a camo texture over it.

Since when was Gameloft ever concerned with originality?

Has anyone experiencing framerate drops on 3GS? I have quite a few of these moments when there's a number of enemies on the screen. Silky smooth @ 60FPS apart from that though.

Running pretty good on the 3G,but all those buttons can make things complicated when the game becomes hectic. Dunno how often I switched to zoomed aiming when I wanted to shoot or crouched instead of runnig away. You can switch off auto aim, but it makes the fights pretty hard, because you seldom fight on close range, so enemies are very small on the screen.
Still the game is fun. I recommend it to everyone who waited for a graphically stunning and atmospheric shooter.

I've downloaded the game and i've got to say that in my opinion, the controls really work. I haven't tried to many of the other iDevice FPS because i've gotten picky about control schemes in general but this one seems to deliver. The graphics are perfect for the gameplay and don't lag at all on my 1g iphone. While it must be stunning on a 3GS, I haven't run into any frame rate problems. This is the FPS we have been waiting for people. Highly recommended. (and its a hoot to play :D)

one of my friends worked on it, so I just downloaded it now and am gonna try it before going to bed. if it sucks, I'll kick him in the nutbag on yall's behalf, cool?

    • http://www.rpg-fanatics.de crishnak

Tell your friend that next time Gameloft should make it possible to turn of the direction arrow. That would give the player the feeling of exploring the levels, which would make this game even better. :D

Is it just me or does it seem like the military guys are doing more bombing than the actual supposed terrorists?.
Now if it was me just standing around with my trusty ak-47 just talking to some mates who also happen to me holding there trusty ak-47s just admiring the new cell tower our poverty stricken village worked super hard to build and then some crazy American hot dog comes running in guns a blazing kills my mate and blows it up....i'd be pissed too.

The game is very solid, with fluid controls and excellent visuals. On the 3GS, the framerate is very fluid and reminiscent of COD4. Having that said, there are a few nagging issues. The framerate issue others have talked about is there, with the screen seemingly freezing at times when moving around. It doesn't happen very often, but it's certainly there. Another problem I have is the sounds. The guns do not sound very realistic at all, and when firing multiple shots there are inaccuracies in the sound output. The music, however, is excellent, and chances are if you're not using headphones it'll be hard to hear the audio flaws. Overall, in its current form, I can highly recommend this game, even with the few small issues it has.

I wonder if Modern Combat will be a prelude to an actual iPhone version of Call of Duty just like Gangstar ended up being a prelude to an iPhone GTA? An iPhone version of Modern Warfare 2 is definitely possible since a version is already being developed for the Nintendo DS. Plus with Activision all about milking franchises, getting onto another popular platform would definitely appeal to them.

This game is A LOT more fun with auto aim off...you play the game differently, it's more challenging, and it's not as run and gun as the guy playing on the vid, also upped up the difficulty to hard. Really fun game. And I love the middle control scheme. Awesome job Gameloft! Finally a good FPS game for the iPhone

Excellent game. Auto-aim set to off. I noticed something. When you hold the fire button down, you can still drag your thumb different directions and it will still fire while your aim moves in the direction you want. Perfect controls for an iPhone FPS. I couldn't be happier with it so far.

This is fantastic! The best FPS yet,. They have really hit the nail on the head with the controls! I only hope that all FPS games from now on use this control scheme as it feels so much more natural than anything else I have played so far.

My only problem at the moment is that I am unable to get onto Multiplayer mode due to it asking for UPNP to be turned on at the router.
I am in IT and can asure you that UPNP is on.

Gameloft, please fix this for a full 5 Stars!
