143106-iphone_301_500While not game related, we thought it'd be good to let you know that Apple had released a security update for the iPhone that fixes a particularly serious security vulnerability.

All iPhone customers are recommended to update and this simply involves plugging your iPhone into iTunes and updating.

Hopefully this will fix the "square/box" virus

scary huh? Finely they (the hackers) have found a way to take control of your iPhone.

er no – if you look into the reports it turns out the same risk applies to all phones – just creates more fuss if story is about iPhones

good that apple have issued update though – but I'm not rushing to install. This is just a proof of concept – not been happning in the wild and someone would have to k ow your phone number and would then have prime acess to little more than your friends phone numbers

I've never been less concerned – but that doesn't stop it being a big story for apple haters

well, I just updated, you never know :-)

  • mek says:

i always wait at least a day when new updates come out, to see how the userbase is effected [positively and or negatively], sometimes the update causes more problems than it fixes
and also because with the millions of people trying to download it, it is always easier to wait a few days

  • abaj says:

wait so…noob question but if my iphone is jailbroken is it still okay to update?

    • PS3 FANBOY says:

yeah you can still update… I'm a jailbroken iphone 3G and the way it works is if you update the baseband (basically the main firmware) such as going from 2.x to 3.x then you will have to rejailbreak if possible…. but if it dosent such as going from 3.0 to 3.1 you will still be jailbroken (: although I'm not going to update this becuase I really don't care about a hacker looking at all my numbers and stuff lol… also you can be hacked by bluetooth no matter what (I have a friend who is a blutooth nut and showed me lol) so yeah…. thats my comment (:

  • Rod76 says:

Yeah, it hoses over the Jailbreak. I just got through restoring and re-jailbreaking my phone. Hold off until redsn0w is updated!

  • Jimmy says:

Another noob question. Will I still have my mp3s after updating to 3.1 firmware???

  • abaj says:

@Jimmy: no, you still have all your songs right there as before.

@Rod76: what type of jailbreak did you use? I'm trying to re-jailbreak mine through purplera1n and it's taking ages. not sure if it'll even work. i guess you're right we will have to wait

Hey guys im an iphone developer so im on the 3.1 beta 3 so how do i download 3.0.1

  • along123 says:

I'm updatin my iphone right now. So far so good ..hope they include more tidbits for my iphone haha ..

  • Dekon says:

    @ryan dellroy
    You can't at the moment.

  • munkee says:

Haha, you pirates always get left behind when a new update comes out. Fortunately it's no major update.

  • LBG says:

But us 'pirates' will get access to the new update later and a whole load of other stuff. Besides, not all jailbreakers are pirates. Some just break out of jail and return to being law abiding citizens who are doing nothing wrong. Yaaaaaaar!!!

  • djmuzi says:

I want them to fix the decreased WiFi reach :( after I updated my iPod it doesn't receive Wlan on places where with 2.1 I had no problems

  • tekchic says:

What I want to know is why it takes 230mb to fix an SMS hack. Detailed patch notes anyone?

    • Dan says:

Apple most lieky don't want to patch it cause they don't wanna teach a new way to patch the firmware. I could be way off just came to mind.

  • john saah says:

would be nice if iPhone had some of the more basic free features built-in like a zoom still camera feature and a 90 second video camera capability.

my old $20 phone had all of this stuff.

also, the new voice-enabled gps is not at all worth $10 per month when I can go out a buy a Tom Tom for $125 (a one time cost).

Apple and ATT are both rapidly becoming a joke !
