438913_4Some of our readers have been waiting for a game just like Moto X Mayhem [$1.99] from Occamy Games. The game is a faster-paced version of various physics bike games that have already appeared in the app store and resembles many of the popular Flash dirt bike games. In fact, this version seems near identical to TeaGames' TG Motocross.

The game is a physics dirt biking gaming in which you are simply trying to make it to the end of each level with the best time. If you fall, you've got to start over. The controls work quite well on the iPhone with the natural use of the accelerometer for leaning forward/backward on your bike. Tapping on the left side of the screen brakes while tapping on the right accelerates. You can perform flips, though no bonus points are given for these stunts. Despite the nicely implemented controls and gameplay, the remainder of the game is remarkably sparse.

The game comes with only 7 levels which in total took me about 2 minutes and 21 seconds to complete once I had practiced enough to be able to make it through. Making it through within the allotted lives isn't a cinch and does take practice. The incentive to keep playing is to improve your times. The game does contain a global leaderboard to compare total track times, and each track can be practiced individually.

We really like what we've seen, but we want a lot more. There are similar physics types games including another dirt bike one called Motocross [$3.99] which does have many more levels, but we just didn't like the design or gameplay of that one as much.

Hmm... I'm a little bit worried about the games which currently make it to the front page. I mean, do we really need a front page article for a game which can be finished in two minutes?

Well, I agree with Arn. It's the style and gameplay of a game that make it worth - not the length. I imagine that it it quite easy for the devs to add more content with the next update.

But this one does look like it plays like Elastomania/Action Supercross which makes it a hell of a lot more interesting to me.

Looks interesting, but it also looks like it could do with a mini-map silhouette thingy like on the online version (TeaGames' TG Motocross, linked in the article), so you can see the shapes coming up...

Well for a site like TouchArcade, which gets dozens of requests from new games devs everyday, they have played pretty much all of the games out there. It seems now that an interesting gameplay, no matter how short the experience or bad the value for money, excites them more then games which may not be as original, even if they have a lot more entertainment values along with a much better value for the customers money.

At just under a dollar per minute, this game in it s current form, has to be one of THE most expensive entertainment one can get for oneself, gaming or otherwise. I can understand TA`s decision to not consider some games worthy enough of front page coverage, but when games like Moto X and Enviro Bear(featured twice) make it to the front page one cant help but wonder WHY.

But I must also admit that barring these few rare instances, most of TA`s coverage has been spot on IMHO. Hopefully in the future too, these rare instances stay "rare" only. Amen :)

X-Moto is available for Mac and PC (and a bunch of other OSes too) hand has been around for a while. It's not really a racing game, more of a trial simulation. It has a level editor and you can download/install new maps quite simply.

If this is from the same guys, I suspect there will be some kind of possibility to extend the current set of maps or even to make them yourself. At least I hope so.

Well what do you know ... X-Moto is an open source game

I'll gladly pay for an iPhone adaptation of the engine, but if they're just using free software to make money ... baaaad!

Perhaps I undersold the game in my writeup.

    1. This is a very good game at its core.
    2. There is more gameplay time than 2 minutes 21 seconds. The point is to do it faster each time.
    3. It does take a little practice to actually make it through all 7 levels within the alloted # of lives -- it's not a straight shot as you can see in the video.
    4. All that said, it does need more variety and longevity.

It sure does need a lot more longevity. That only is the reason I consider this game not worthy of TA coverage. May be it has some really interesting and satisfying gameplay experience for the little while it lasts, @1.99$ I'm simply not encouraged enough to find it out for myself. Unless my job required me to review this game.

Might be worth checking out once it does get an update though. But until then my opinion will be..... PASS.

    Hi guys, developer here...

First, thanks for the review TouchArcade! We do hope to add more content down the road. The first goal was to create fun gameplay. Racing against the clock and beating each others scores is definitely what we enjoyed while creating it.

Moto X Mayhem has been created using our own multi-purpose engine that my partner created and improved over the course of the last 10 years. We've spent the last six months playing with it and different game ideas. Just ask our neglected girlfriends :P

I haven't had a chance to try X-Moto yet. I'll have to download it tonight and see if it is actually similar. There are many other side scrolling motocross games and I think the one mentioned in the article is clearly the most influential.

    Happy gaming!

    I wonder why you'd say that:rolleyes::p

Anyways it's always good to hear from the devs about the games. Hope those updates come soon enough.

I was after a good Motocross style physics racer. Thanks @TWilson, I think you guys have got the feel of it just right. Then it's just down to adding more content in some updates, which I look forward to.

I musn't have as much free time as some of those complaining about the length of the game.. I've only tried the first half of the course. I'll reserve final judgement until I've made it all the way through. I'm liking it so far. :D

I've enjoyed this game for a couple months now. The latest updates have added another more difficult track. The downside is that our rider is wearing a stupid Bear costume! Is this a Halloween joke? I hope so.

    I love this game.
After the latest update on my Iphone, the human rider is replaced by
    a bear.
How do I get rid of the bear ?

The bear is good for little kids.
    How many kids have Iphones.
