Pankaku has recently released the full version of their Tron-like game LightBike [App Store] which is on sale for $0.99 (normally $2.99) until February 10th. The game offers a 3D version of the Light Cycle game in which you must surround your enemies and avoid crashing into walls. A speed boost button adds an additional element to the game.
The game offers the following modes of play:
- 1 player mode (with 3 levels of difficulty)
- Split-Screen Mode (for 2 players)
- Wifi Mode (for 2 to 4 players)
Meanwhile, the developers are promising over-the-internet Wi-Fi play in the future. A free/lite version of the game is also available [App Store] that gives you a taste of the 1 player mode.

Considering I tried the free version before the update, I thought this would be a bust. After playing the updated lite version and the new full version, LightBike is a fun little app. The rear camera view is a big plus to add to the feel. What it lacks right now is the wi-fi play which will add depth, the ability to choose the color of your lightbike and different arenas. Admittedly, the game isn't exactly too difficult. I'm looking to the one from DS Media Labs.
And I don't want to see "LIGHT BIKE" all the time in the backround.
The game lacks of polish.
yeah, well, for $0.99, it's hard to go too wrong. I think if you have anyone around you have to play it with, it's worth it. I found the computer competition kinda boring though.
Agreed, this is one of those apps where two-player gameplay makes the game. Wifi play will hopefully help LightBike because the game against the computer is too easy and formulaic.
This is awesome. For .99 or $2.99 it's a steal. Can't wait for wi-fi!
I agree with YPR that we don't need LIGHTBIKE up on the rafters in all directions. Maybe something else there like stars/planets – but all i care about is that the gameplay is solid.
I suggested (in the thread) that the game could use different modes (larger arenas, obstacles, tournament, etc…) and stats – but that should cost more and i wouldn't paying $6 for a deluxe version.
