Rude Scotsman has released an update to the iPhone Tempest-alike retro shooter Vector Blaster [$2.99 App Store].
Vector Blaster v1.1 features the following changes:
- Select between horizontal and vertical input modes
- Adjust the input sensitivity
- Toggle music on / off
- Toggle tutorial on / off
- Explanation added for game pause behavior
Vector Blaster is basically Tempest for the iPhone. And if you don’t know Tempest, then you’re missing out.
Well, it’s Tempest, with a few notable differences. Tempest is a 3D-ish “tube shooter” where various enemies jump onto a segmented tube and ride the segments out towards the rim, which is the domain of the player’s claw-shaped ship. Tempest’s tubes of various shapes (one per level) are stationary and the player’s ship runs about it by way of a rotary control. In Vector Blaster, the ship is stationary and a touchscreen virtual rotary controller drives the rotation of the level around it. It feels pretty nice–a bit more “active” than Tempest.
We took a close look at Vector Blaster earlier this month.
OMG, this is one of the most anticpated games for me now. Alongside rolando, this looks awesome!
must.......buy........
I like that you can customize the buttons to place them where you want them. All games with on-screen buttons should have this.

Yes, that is pretty slick. Yoink!
FINALLY! Anyone who's had Palm OS is going to love this one...
I loved the original PALM game (1st one). Definitely looking forward to this.
Update: The developer let us know that the game is nearing completion and they hope for a release in the next week or so. The game is also identical to the Palm version and so you will be able to compare scores against Palm players and also use the same 3rd party levels. Players of the old Palm version can even install their old recordings.
Awesome! Bike or Die was one of my favorite games on my old Tungsten T3.
Without doubt the BEST game yet for iPhone -- I had the Palm version and played it for months. The difficulty level was pitched just right -- you'll find yourself thinking about playing the game day after day.
I've bought a lot of apps from iTunes -- some are gems, but 95% are rubbish. Bike or Die! for iPhone looks like the hottest thing since a hot pizza being pulled from a hot oven covered in exta hot Chillis.
I think Toyspring have single handedly raised the bar x 2 for iphone games from now on. Everyone else better start running to catch up.
Please, can you release it now? I need to buy it!!!!!
Mark.
I was hoping for something like X-Moto, but this look way more polished.
For some reason this game kind of reminds me of Jelly Car except with a bike and more options.
Yes, I agree, this game si going to be a must buy in the likes of Crash and Monkeyball. The developers have a very intuitive online community. I would guess this game would be at the $9.99 price, but with the cheap prices of all the appstore games you never know. I know it was $14.99 on the Palm OS when I bought it there.

Same, I was addicted to this game, my TT3 stays charged underneath my bedside table just for these great games.
Extension was a great demo. Amiga FTW.
