After surprising everyone by releasing updated versions of DOOM ($4.99) and DOOM II ($4.99) on the App Store and Google Play, Bethesda’s decision to force a mandatory Bethesda.net account and login for the games annoyed many fans. While the iOS version of DOOM II at least for me always showed the “Skip" button on the login screen, DOOM still forced the login. Today, both games have been updated and the requirement is removed for the most part.

I say for the most part because you still have to tap on “Skip" each time you launch either of the two games on iOS. The update notes on the App Store make no mention of this and just have a brief description of the games. It is pretty disappointing to see them not let you dismiss this option permanently and have it nested away in some options menu rather than be forced to see the screen each time you launch the games.

This wouldn’t bother me as much as it does now if it would be a seamless transition if you logged in. Even if you login after creating an account, you are forced to wait for it to login before you can even access the game menu. Hopefully this update rolls out to the Nintendo Switch releases of DOOM and DOOM II as well. Did you buy both games on iOS or any other platform through these new releases?

now to fix the awful controls! bring back the original control schemes Carmack included originally and speed up the music its slower tempo than its supposed to be
What the heck? Is it too difficult to get rid of these stupid login windows / messages permanently ? Also, what about the music? Aren't they fix this as well?
Waiting for Doom II RPG. Then maybe I’ll jump on the Doom wagon.
Wow they broke the controls. Glad It was just an update to the old doom on iOS and I didn’t have to pay again.
Don't buy Doom 1 or 2 at least for now until it is patched properly. Framerate is stuck at 35 fps with frame pacing issues due to 60 hz displays for a start. Sound is rubbish and the game does not display 1 for 1 pixel resolution so everything is out of wack in proportion. Eurogamer just did a great article on it where they explain that only Doom 3 received decent treatment including full 4k 60 support on Pro and X hardware. Doom 1 and 2 are actually worse than the 360 ports available on Back compat for Xbox one and those themselves had issues too.
Switch version is pretty good with some dips on Doom 3 . Runs at 720p with no AA and no advanced lighting option the others have. It still targets 60 fps even handheld though which is pretty cool.
Bottom line is don't give Bethesda undeserved money until they get their act together but Doom 3 is the pick and is an excellent conversion so long as you like the game based off BFG edition which adds a light at all times instead of being as spooky as the original where you were forced to swap between gun and torch. Shame there is no option for this in this version.
Luckily they are all seperate purchases so you aren't forced to buy their rubbish and can just buy the decent Doom 3 instead for now.
Doom 1 and 2 are just a quick cash grab and not worth your time or money sadly.
On PS4 we can play Doom 3 without a login nor an internet connection. Unfortunately, I bought the switch version also but I didn't try it for the moment because I am not at home. Bethesda sucks!
I will check out the forums before buying anything.
It is impossible to get a refund from Nintendo when a game does not work or for whatever reasons.
