Cats and platforming. Those are the two main ingredients that make up a Catformer, a platforming game with cats. Two great tastes that taste great together. And one of the very best Catformers ever released in the world of mobile is Super Cat Tales (Free) from developer Neutronized. That game blew our paws off when it released back in the fall of 2016, and then just about a month ago we got the very welcome news that Neutronized was working on a sequel. Last week, Neutronized posted a new developer video talking about some of the changes that will be in Super Cat Tales 2. One of the best features of the original game was the cast of playable cats that each brought their own unique ability that would be needed to advance past certain parts of the game. What wasn’t always so cool was getting to a part in the game that you couldn’t pass because you weren’t playing with the correct cat, so you’d need to backtrack back to the special pink pad that would allow you to change characters. This video talks about solving that problem in the sequel.
The backtracking wasn’t necessarily a huge deal in the first game, but I definitely agree that this new approach is much more streamlined and should save people from having to needlessly backtrack through a level when they get stuck. It’s also pretty cool that Neutronized is creating multiple ways to pass through certain parts of a level in the event you don’t have the proper cat in play, though I do hope that doesn’t go towards making the cat-switching aspect pointless. Whatever the case I’m very excited for Super Cat Tales 2 and I’m hoping Neutronized will be putting out more of these devlog videos as I love looking at how the sausage is made. Super Cat Tales 2 is pegging a release at some point in 2018 and we’ll definitely continue to follow it closely as development continues.
