Check Out Two Solid Minutes of Gameplay in Upcoming Retro Shoot ‘Em Up ‘1949 EndWar’

TouchArcade Rating:

I’ve been quietly following the development of 1949 EndWar for over a year now, and we first brought you news of this spiritual sequel to Capcom’s 1942 back in early October when developer Smallthing released the first official teaser trailer for the game. While the team had originally hoped to release the game before the end of 2016, they feel they need a little more time to get the game just right and are now targeting Q1 of 2017 isntead, along with an expanded set of release platforms like Xbox One, PC, Mac, and possibly even PlayStation 4 and Vita. Anyway, to temper the wait for those like me who are anxiously awaiting 1949 EndWar, Smallthing today has released a new gameplay trailer showing a solid 2 minute playthrough of the first level in the game.

In ultimate teaser fashion, that video ends right as the boss battle is heating up, but it does its job of making me even more excited for 1949 EndWar than I already was. My favorite thing is how meticulous Smallthing is about keeping this new game faithful to the classic series while still indulging in flourishes like fancier explosions and particle effects that give 1949 EndWar a modern feel while still being totally retro. I really can’t wait for this one to hit, so in the meantime follow along with its progress in the forums and we’ll give you a heads up once some more concrete information is released regarding a release date for 1949 EndWar.

Ok, now I've downloaded this, I'll see you next week at some point.

I clocked about 100 hours on GoF2 with the expansions. Once you've done it all though, and got the best ship (the Void-X imho), there's not much re-playability.

I expect this to be similar.

The Specter is the best ship in GOF2. Cost 30,000,000 credits. Need to complete all of the medals and Supernova Medals.

Well, Fishlabs (rightfully) decided there is more money to be made with complete f2p. Sad it turned out this way for a j2me/iOS classic. Will keep playing GoF2 to satisfy that space craving

The on-screen dpad control is annoying. I appreciated the gyroscope-sensing movement of the older games or the game controller use in the Apple TV version.

Lots of little problems, as with GoF2/HD that will go away. It looks great but is frustrating to play right now.

Since my last comment was deleted I shall tone this one down. This game is awful. Its an insult to its pedigree in every sense. It is pretty and repetitive, and pretty repetitive at the same time. Every mission is exactly the same. It's rinse and repeat so you can get better gear to rinse and repeat again. Asking anyone to pay for anything in this game is absolutely insulting. Fish Labs should have paid me just to play it. I kept playing thinking it would open up, it never did. Fish Labs was instabuy for me after galaxy on fire 1 and 2. This was just a total disappointment.

Thank you. Your original comment was awful.

Well, yeah. My disappointment temporarily disabled the filter between my brain and my fingers. It was like getting socks for Christmas. Sorry about that.

Can't find on ATV, my controller is ready... wtf?
