When the first teaser trailer for Nitrome’s Beneath the Lighthouse was revealed, we’ve been asking the question of just what the heck it was supposed to be. And, well, we’ve just found out just in time for the game’s release on Thursday, October 29th. Beneath the Lighthouse will have you spinning levels to get your big-headed protagonist spinning around the game’s myriad levels, trying to make it to the end without hitting spikes and running out of health, and possibly doing so in fast enough time. All the while, suffering enough head trauma that even Roger Goodell would find excessive and unnecessary. Someone get this kid a helmet!
Beneath the Lighthouse feels a bit like Cube Koala (Free) but circular, and with some magnificent sound design that’s great on good headphones. The game will be free to download, with a $3.99 in-app purchase to remove ads and the game’s heart system. You start each level with 3 hearts, with each level generally containing 3 rooms, with a checkpoint at the start of each room. If you run out of hearts, you have to start the level over. But if you buy out of the hearts, you can play until you complete the level, though good luck getting the gold trophy for fast time, of course. You can get more hearts through watching ads or sharing to social media. Beneath the Lighthouse is also coming to Apple TV, though it will be a $3.99 purchase up front, pending approval.
