The ‘Star Wars’ Movies Release on iTunes This Week, Here’s the Top Five Best iOS ‘Star Wars’ Games

TouchArcade Rating:

Big news this week, as the Star Wars movies are finally releasing onto digital platforms, making them widely available for the first time without the artificial scarcity of the various physical releases of the movies. The first six movies will all be available on iTunes for $19.99 each starting on Friday, April 10th. You can only buy them, and they’re the same editions as on the Blu-ray versions of the movies. Unfortunately, this means that Greedo shoots first in Episode IV. There will be new special features for each movie, and some “legacy" special features from other releases; the theatrical cut of the podrace from The Phantom Menace is available, for example.

While you’ll have to wait until Friday to pick up the digital versions of the Star Wars series for yourself, there’s a bunch of rad Star Wars games on the App Store right now for you to check out. Here’s a few of note:

Star Wars Rebels: Recon Missions, Free This game is based on the new animated show, and we were intrigued enough by it to name it the Game of the Week when it released, and awarded it five stars in our review. Much like the show itself, it’s a surprisingly good action-platformer, and fans of games with freemium unlocks may want to check this out: it’s free for the first few levels, with 31 levels and 2 additional characters available for $4.99.

Star Warsâ„¢: KOTOR, $9.99 I’m not sure how canon it is any more, with things like the Expanded Universe getting discarded from the official canon and re-christened as the “Legends" series for works that still sell well. Regardless of its canonicity, this BioWare-developed RPG is still a unique experience that holds up to this day. And you’ll get your $9.99 out of it for sure. Check out our review and Shaun Musgrave’s RPG Reload column for the game.

Star Warsâ„¢ Pinball 7, $1.99 Zen Studios knows digital pinball, and they’ve applied their expertise to a number of Star Wars tables so far. If you download the app, you get the Empire Strikes Back table, and can pick up nine other tables, with a Star Wars Rebels table coming soon as well.

LEGO® Star Wars™: TCS, Free The Lego games based on various franchises got their start after the first Lego Star Wars game released, based on the first 3 episodes, and then the original trilogy a year later. Now, you can play through all 6 episodes in the humorous fashion started by this series, all in one app. Plus, it comes with Episode I for free.

Star Warsâ„¢: Commander, Free Sure, there are plenty of Clash of Clans (Free) clones on the App Store. But do you think I’m going to put down a Star Wars take on raiding strategy, where you pick between the Rebels or Empire, and fight players on either side of the conflict? If so, your lack of faith disturbs me.
