There was another Apple event today, and like the last several Apple events including last year’s WWDC it was entirely an online presentation due to the ongoing pandemic. And of course, it took place this morning at precisely the same time my internet service provider was at my house swapping out all of my equipment. So I missed the whole thing! Not a major deal, as the event is available on demand right now, but it’s not the same as watching everything unfold live, you know? Anyway, lots of new stuff was announced today! Just about all of it was stuff that had already been leaked previously, which always steals some of the excitement of these new product announcements, but such is life nowadays in the Apple-shpere.
One of the biggest announcements today was a brand new iPad Pro model that comes equipped with Apple’s new M1 chip. These custom-developed chips made their debut in MacBook Air and Pro, as well as the Mac Mini, late last year and have shown to be extremely performant SoCs. However, Apple has been doing this same thing with their A Series chips in iOS devices for more than a decade now, and as I understood it the new M Series was simply a slight variant taking into account the special needs of laptop and desktop computing. I guess with the iPad Pro, and especially combined with Apple’s excellent Magic Keyboard accessory, those lines between mobile device and traditional computer are so blurred that it makes sense to put Apple’s new laptop/desktop chip into an iPad Pro? I’m not complaining or anything! I’m just confused on where the A Series chip stands now.
All that aside, an iPad sporting the massive power of an M1 chip is an exciting prospect indeed. To drive that point home, Larian Studios has pointed out that the forthcoming iOS port of their universally acclaimed 2017 RPG Divinity: Original Sin 2 is the “whole experience without compromise" and will run at 60 frames per second and will even include cooperative play on the same device. Check out this clip the studio posted to Twitter.
Divinity: Original Sin 2 on the new M1 iPad Pro revealed today will be the whole experience without compromise. That means 60fps, and for the first time on a mobile device, with local co-op! pic.twitter.com/cVu3pNefWH

An iPad port of Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition was first revealed during Apple’s WWDC last year, with no real details regarding release date or anything like that. We still don’t have those details, but Larian Studios has revealed in a follow-up tweet that developer Elverils is who is porting the game to the iPad and that they’re still working together on it and will “share more soon!" If you want to see everything that was announced and unveiled at Apple’s “Spring Loaded" event today, Macrumors as always has all the info you need.
