Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition (Free) from Square Enix was revealed a while ago for multiple platforms. The GameCube classic Final Fantasy was set to be remastered and released on PS4, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android. It was originally set for January this year but was delayed and it has finally released worldwide. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition features online multiplayer, no local co-op, cross platform progression and online play, new content, additional paid DLC, and more. The paid DLC is priced between $3.99 and $8.99 including crystals and arms that are usable in the game. The full game is priced at $29.99 on Nintendo Switch and PS4 but the exact price on iOS and Android for the full game unlock will vary by region. Watch the trailer for it below showcasing the new features for the GameCube remaster:
On iOS and Android, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition is available for free and this free version will include the same content as the newly revealed Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition Lite edition on consoles. This free version on iOS and Android can be upgraded to the full version through an in app purchase that unlocks all the full game content and story. There is also additional DLC available through in app purchases. If you’d like to play Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition, you can download it on the App Store for iOS here and on Google Play for Android here. It is worth noting that the app on iOS is a different build from the Japanese one. Check out the Japanese release here on the App Store in Japan. As of now, it hasn’t released in every country yet with the game yet to roll out in India, Singapore, and more. Check out the English website here. Have you played this on the GameCube before or will you be experiencing it for the first time in when it hits current platforms?
Why would they have a world wide release on every other store, but Android is currently a region by region roll out? Makes no sense.
Also, how would Android region locking work? Like if I bought the game in the East, can I take that game and play it in the western world or will i be locked out of playing my paid game?
I played the GameCube version to death in single player and whilst I know the game won’t be for everyone I think it’s a successful mobile port for a few reasons.
The first is the controls. Because you have one command ‘button’ that you swipe through the commands of there are no on-screen buttons blocking gameplay. The fixed camera also helps with the touchscreen joystick. When you can see the character in a fixed perspective you don’t need a ‘dead zone’ to refer back to.
The second is the lack of quality dungeon crawlers on iOS. There are plenty of roguelikes but very few that aren’t IAP-ridden freebies and even less with character creation that can be played offline by yourself. FYI the game doesn’t require an internet connection to run.
I’d call it the best value dungeon crawler on iOS since Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (or until SEGA port the original PSO to mobile)
If you’re the sort of gamer that doesn’t mind repetitive, loot gathering gameplay that looks gorgeous and don’t mind the paper thin plot then this is the game for you.
