The Pathless from Giant Squid and Annapurna Interactive was one of the first games to be announced for Apple Arcade. It was originally announced for PS4 and PC platforms but was revealed for Apple Arcade and eventually also PS5. We’ve slowly been seeing more about the open world adventure game with new trailers across different events. The Pathless was then delayed last year with a 2020 release target. At Sony’s newest State of Play showcase earlier today, Annapurna Interactive and Giant Squid showcased and extended look at the gameplay in The Pathless including a lot of new mechanics we hadn’t seen before. Watch the new gameplay showcase for The Pathless below:
You play as the Hunter in The Pathless who has an eagle as a companion. The Pathless is set in a forest and your aim is to lift a curse of durkness that has plagued the world. The gameplay had some amazing traversal with archery, vibrant locations, and an interesting boss encounter. You can also pet the eagle in the game. Matt Nava of Giant Squid who is ABZU’s creator, art director, and director also was the art director on Journey prior. While I didn’t care as much for ABZU as most people compared to Journey, I’m definitely excited to check out The Pathless when it arrives because every bit of new gameplay looks amazing. It looks like it might be a launch title for PS5 given the “holiday 2020" release window which means it likely will release this November. What did you think of ABZU from Giant Squid if you played it?
