SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Tharsis’ and Other New Releases, the Latest Sales Featuring ‘New Super Lucky’s Tale’, ‘Slay the Spire’, and More

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to a holiday edition of the SwitchArcade Round-Up. Yes, it’s Easter Monday and I am kicking my feet up today and only spending half of it working. Only 12 hours of work for this guy! Fortunately, there was barely any news worth noting over the weekend, so my day of frivolity is well-timed. In this briefer-than-usual article, we’ll be looking a couple of new games that hit the eShop over the weekend, followed by the usual sales list. And that’s it! We’ll be back to full power tomorrow, don’t worry. Let’s go!

New Releases

Tharsis ($11.99)

This one has been out on other platforms for a while, and the reception to it hasn’t exactly been warm. It’s kind of a strategy board game where you need to land at least one of your astronauts on Mars within ten turns. Pretty much everything comes down to dice rolls and random events, and with the compact nature of the game it means that you’ll know whether you’ve got a potential winning run or not fairly early. There’s a lot going on under the hood here, and it’s possible my quick look at the game didn’t reveal its finer qualities, but as it stands I feel like this game leans a little too much on luck to keep my attention for very long.

LASTFIGHT ($19.99)

You know, I can’t tell if this game already came out on the Switch in other regions last year or not. But it’s showing as a new release in North America, so I’ll proceed as though it is. This is a Power Stone-style fighting game based on the cult comic LASTMAN. Before you get too excited about that idea, I should let you know that this is not a terribly good Power Stone-style game. But if you like the comic and its characters well enough and have some people to play with locally, it can be kind of amusing for a while.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

While the bulk of the list of new sales is made up of some very familiar faces, there are a few rather pleasant surprises here. New Super Lucky’s Tale is an awesome 3D platformer, well-worth picking up even at full price. But why not save a few bucks and grab it now? It’s never a bad time to play Slay the Spire, and Call of Juarez: Gunslinger will scratch your action itch if it’s an itch in need of scratching. For those stuck in the house with willing players, digital board games like Carassonne and Catan may help pass the time. The outbox has a few things worth noting as well, such as Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid. Remember: the DLC for the game is also on sale. The game has come a long way since launch and is worth grabbing if you want some Marvel Vs Capcom-style fighting.
