Valve’s Steam Link (Free) app on iOS ran into quite a few issues prior to launch thanks to Apple taking a long time to approve it. Ever since the app was finally approved, it has been getting updated with new features and enhancements almnost every month. Today, Valve pushed out an update bringing a new controller overlay mode, new contol options, and more. The version 1.1.58 update also has some new toggles for touch controls an an inspection tool for the controller layout panel.
This update finally lets you toggle an option to move the mouse out of the way when a game is launched. The Start, Back, and Guide buttons now do what they are supposed to do with a long press letting you bring up the overlay. You can now also shrink the game view smaller the screen if you’d like with the new pinch and zoom layout options that are saved per game. It is going to be interesting to see how both Steam Link and the recently released Rainway improve over time. If you missed our initial hands on with Steam Link, check it out here. Do you stream games from your PC to iOS often?
Well, not really. It still requires a good PC to stream from.
When someone finally perfects this...I WILL be streaming PC games to mobile LOTS haha. I wish something like this was on the horizon for the Switch...then I'd be in heaven.
Wow, this is awesome...IF...I'm understanding what I'm reading in that...we get a virtual controller layout on the screen now. I was disappointed so far with rainways on screen controls at the moment...and like the author in the original steam link post describes...I too love my PC gaming...but kinda hate being away from my friends and family to do so...so I'd love to get back to PC gaming...but finally..ON MY COUCH lol.
So far I wasn’t able to get viable performance, even when connecting to a USB wifi hotspot directly on my laptop :/ The Galaxy S7 was even worse though with half-second interruptions every few seconds, unless the mobile network is turned off (not good for a phone...).
And even for games, where I’d accept that, I often end up lacking controller options. I am rather annoyed for Torchlight 2 bringing controller support only to the console version (Diablo 3 too I think), and even more about the community being like „play with the mouse, dirty console wannabe!“
