‘Card Crawl’ and ‘Card Thief’ Developer’s New Game ‘Maze Machina’ Arrives Next Week

We are BIG TIME fans of Arnold Rauers around these parts, aka developer TiNYTOUCHTALES, as for years now he’s been creating some of the best card-based dungeon crawler experiences around. His Card Crawl is my favorite of the bunch, and in fact is one of my favorite games of all time on any platform, but the rest of his library is nothing to sneeze at either. So it was pretty exciting in June of last year when Rauers announced a new project called Maze Machina. He would once again be partnering with Max ‘Mexer’ Fiedler for the visuals and Oliver Salkic for the music, as was the case with both Card Crawl and Card Thief, and this time he’d be focusing on making a turn-based strategy puzzle game inspired by the likes of such classics as Threes! and Imbroglio. All good things! Here is a brand new trailer for Maze Machina if you want to see what this sort of thing looks like with your own eyeballs.

As you can see, you are basically the plaything of a bad ass steampunk skeleton guy who has enlisted you, a mere mouse, to make it through a variety of dangerous mazes so that mister steampunk skeleton guy can test out his similarly bad ass little steampunk robots. It utilizes the “shift the entire board at once" mechanics of Threes! with the highly tactical, on your toes battling of Imbroglio, and injects plenty of its own unique personality into something that gels into a big squishy ball of gaming goodness. Yes, if you thought that Rauers had finally hit a wall and all his previous games being amazing was just some fluke, you are wrong, as Maze Machina is yet another major winner. And you’ll be able to find out for yourself in short order, as Rauers announced on Twitter this week that Maze Machina will be launching on both iOS and Android next week on January 15th. You guys are in for a treat with this one.
