‘Hearthstone’ Battlegrounds Now in Open Beta and Available to All Players

TouchArcade Rating:

Have you been wondering when you’d get a chance to try out Hearthstone’s latest major new mode, Battlegrounds? Well wonder no more as today the new mode released into open beta for all to try. Are you asking yourself “What the heck even IS Hearthstone Battlegrounds?" Well earlier this month during BlizzCon, alongside the announcement of a new expansion called Descent of Dragons, Blizzard unveiled Battlegrounds as a new auto-battling mode for Hearthstone for up to 8 players. It’s basically their version of the Auto Chess games that originated as a mod for Dota 2 and have since popped up in basically every game imaginable. Our own Tasos Lazarides attended BlizzCon this year and was able to check out the Early Access launch of Hearthstone Battlegrounds, and wrote up this in-depth hands-on preview. Spoiler alert: He likes it.

For the past week, that Early Access period has only been open to anyone who attended BlizzCon either in person or with a virtual pass or anyone who has pre-purchased the Descent of Dragons expansion bundle. With that week of limited Early Access now over, Hearthstone Battlegrounds is now officially in open beta and available to play for anybody who has the game. Well, providing you have a mobile device with at least 2GB of RAM that is. Due to the 8 players the game needs all that memory, but Blizzard is hoping to lessen those requirements as development continues on the new mode. Hearthstone is free to download and play so there’s no reason not to give this interesting new Battlegrounds mode a shot for yourself.
