Check Out Over Three Minutes of ‘Hyper Light Drifter’ Being Played on an iPhone

Last month Heart Machine and Abylight Studios dropped a bombshell when they announced that their critically-acclaimed action game Hyper Light Drifter would be releasing on iOS. Originally launched on desktop and consoles in 2016, Hyper Light Drifter was designed to be something of a hybrid between classic The Legend of Zelda and Diablo. It’s a top-down game that has you running around an incredible world hacking and slashing enemies with your energy sword. There’s actually a huge arsenal of other weapons as well, but one of the clever mechanics in the game is that you don’t come across ammunition to refill those other weapons, rather you fill them up by using your energy sword, a fact that encourages you to get up close and personal during combat instead of just relying on ranged weapons and picking off enemies from afar. For being a very action-oriented game, many wondered just how well Hyper Light Drifter would play with virtual controls on a touchscreen. Well Abylight Studios is here to show you exactly that with about three and a half minutes of gameplay footage, both off screen and directly captured, showing the game being played on an iPhone.

I gotta tell ya, I hope Apple’s warranty covers keyboard repair because I just drooled all over my laptop watching that video. These types of games may not be to everyone’s fancy, what with all the virtual buttons and what not, but this is the sort of thing that is exactly right up my alley. I just can’t wait. Thankfully, there’s not long to wait at all, as Hyper Light Drifter is set to hit iOS next week on July 25th. In fact it’s up for pre-order right now with a 30% discount, clocking in at a measly $4.99. Also this is the Special Edition of Hyper Light Drifter, like the one that launched on Nintendo Switch last fall, so it comes equipped with some exclusive content including a special Tower Climb challenge mode. Next Thursday simply can’t come soon enough.
