Unique Turn-Based Puzzler ‘Valleys Between’ Gets an August 30th Global Release Date

Earlier this month we posted about the soft launch of a new puzzle game called Valleys Between from New Zealand based developer Little Lost Fox, and it looked unique enough that it was worth dusting off our New Zealand iTunes account for. Not only that, but Valleys Between is a paid title, and whereas most soft launch games are free and therefore easy to take for an early spin, this particular instance required us burning through some of the precious New Zealand Funny Money we have loaded on our account. All this turned out to be totally worth it though, as Valleys Between really is a unique and beautiful game, and now the rest of the world can experience it too when the global launch happens on August 30th.

While it’s nice to finally see a trailer for Valleys Between, it’s a little too brief to really see what the mechanics are all about. And it’s a different enough game that it’s tricky to describe. Basically you have a 5×5 grid of hexagons and you can flick upwards on any square to perform an action. Flicking up on dirt creates a water hexagon which turns all surrounding hexagons into grass. Flicking up on grass creates a tree, and when you flick up on a tree with at least one other tree next to it they’ll combine into a forest, similar to Triple Town. Combining forests creates buildings and so on and so forth. The goal is to manage your available land and resources well enough to continue the game for as many in-game years as possible. Again, this description isn’t doing the game justice at all, but hopefully it’ll all be clear when Valleys Between is available worldwide at the end of this month.
