‘PUBG’ Gets Massive Update, Introducing New Game Mode, Skins, Clans, and More

The battle between Fornite (Free) and PUBG (Free) rages on with the July update to PUBG which dropped on the App Store earlier today. The most notable addition is a new “war mode," which seems to address a complaint I’ve heard often from people on PUBG: The game seems fun, but the permadeath nature of Battle Royale games is fairly stressful. In the new “war mode," players continually respawn to battle over a specific point on the map. Points are earned by killing opponents (as well as knocking them down) and bringing your teammates back up. These sorts of additional battle modes have been really fun in Fortnite, so it’s cool seeing PUBG do similar things.

PUBG is also getting way more social with the addition of a new clan system. This sounds a lot like how clans/guilds work in tons of other games, with specific rewards that can be earned based on the performance of your clan. There’s a clan icon system as well, which will undoubtedly be a big part of the rewards you unlock. In other news, you’ll be able to switch geographical regions in game now, and a new achievement system adds a bunch of things for players to work towards for various unlocks. (Sound familiar?) Unlocks and skins go together like peas and carrots, so again, it’s not much of a surprise that they’re continuing to add more skins to PUBG with skins for your weapons, armor, and even vehicles.
