Just the other day I was thinking, “it’s gotta be rough for anyone trying to capitalize on the battle royale genre on mobile since the real versions of Fortnite (Free) and PUBG (Free) are on mobile, right?" However, you gotta keep your mind open to new iterations on genres, and I’m liking what I’m seeing from Mecha Royale Online from Illogical Games. It’s going to be a top-down battle royale game, but it’s going to use a different kind of battle and progression system. Battles are smaller-scale than typical battle royale titles, and you’ll get credits for winning, which you can then use to buy mechs to take into battle. Keep getting kills, and you can keep buying parts for your mech. But you lose everything when you die.
I am curious to see how this plays out, if the mech system and progression, along with smaller matches, makes for a fun mobile battle royale title. I do think that PUBG and Fortnite are a bit lengthy for pick-up-and-play sessions, so if Mecha Royale Online can solve that problem, it might just have a market, especially if it also delivers a unique gameplay experience along with being perfect for mobile. Though PUBG is a true mobile game, of course. If you want to see what Mecha Royale Online is all about, you can sign up for a closed beta test on our forums!
