In March of last year, Alto’s Adventure ($4.99) creator Snowman and developer The Game Band announced their new collaborative project Where Cards Fall. With just a teaser image and vague description, it was hard to tell what Where Cards Fall was all about, but we were certainly intrigued. Then the following August, the first trailer for the game was released which showed a glimpse into the game’s house-of-cards-building gameplay as well as its charming art and music. We became even more intrigued. Fast forward to this past February, and a new trailer was released showing even more of Where Cards Fall in action, and at this point I was hopelessly in love. The trailer also announced the platforms the game would be coming to as well as a tentative release date of fall 2017. Here it is again in case you’ve missed it.
Beautiful, no? Well, unfortunately, Snowman has released an update on their blog this week announcing that Where Cards Fall will not be hitting its fall 2017 launch window and that the game still needs some time to find its groove. This is certainly disappointing, especially in light of Snowman’s other big release Alto’s Odyssey seeing a similar delay a couple of months ago. That said, Snowman is known for putting such care and love into their games that I’d rather them take the time to get things right than rush things out to meet a deadline. I had a chance to play Where Cards Fall during GDC this past March and all I can say is that it completely blew my mind, and it’s sure to be a treat for players no matter when it does end up launching. We’ll no doubt be keeping tabs on the progress of Where Cards Fall and Snowman promises that “as a firm release window comes into view, we’ll let you know." For a more detailed account surrounding the delay, be sure to read their entire blog post.
