‘Candy Crush’ Maker King is Putting Together a Team to Create a New ‘Call of Duty’ Mobile Game

It’s been about a year and a half since Activision snatched up Candy Crush maker King for a smooth 6 billion dollars, and in May of last year the CEO of King hinted that Activision Blizzard was interested in utilizing some of their top IPs in mobile game releases. Could this mean a Diablo match-3? An Overwatch line-drawing game? A Call of Duty reskin of Clash of Clans? Oh wait, that last one already exists. Anyway, Call of Duty is definitely one of the biggest properties for Activision, and the various mobile games that have released in the series have all done quite well for themselves. I’m pretty sure there’s STILL a ton of people playing Black Ops: Zombies ($6.99) even though it’s well over 5 years old. Anyway, it looks like Activision is indeed ready to leverage their purchase of King and according to a job posting that was spotted by Polygon, they’re currently hiring members for a team to create a mobile Call of Duty game that will “strive to transform the best console experience fans know and love, while also breaking new ground for mobile and redefining the genre."

It’s far too early for any details to be known about this Call of Duty mobile game, and in fact there’s not even a name or even a hint as to what type of game it might be. One thing they make clear, though, is that pretty much anything is a possibility: “Our approach and ambition is to be fresh, social, and highly accessible, while providing a very authentic game experience. The team will prototype extensively, have the freedom to think outside the box, and be encouraged to stretch their expertise in ways to create surprising results." They’re currently hiring an Art Director, a Level Designer, a Senior Systems Designer, and a Senior UX/UI Designer for this latest Call of Duty mobile project. We’ll keep tabs on this one going forward and once there’s some more concrete details available we’ll let you know.
