‘Narcissus’ Lets You Tackle Platformer Challenges With a Friend, or By Yourself

TouchArcade Rating:

Indie developer Alex Johansson is launching platformer Narcissus for iOS on February 9th. This platformer has you playing as two different characters at once, jumping with each one independently with gravity pointing in opposite directions. Now, if you’re saying to yourself “hey, this sounds kind of difficult to jump with two different characters with different gravities all by myself" then you’re right! You could play Narcissus by yourself, but the game is intended for two people to play it together, and on iOS there’s the advantage of each person getting to be on each side of the device, with normal-seeming gravity.

Narcissus being a 2-player game that you can play just by yourself sure seems like there’s a point there about making it through the world by yourself rather than with help. As a hermit, I’m sure that’s applicable to everyone but myself. Johansson was inspired after a walk along the river, seeing the reflection of his brother crossing stepping stones mimicking his movements. Johansson says “I decided to build a game that rewarded social interaction by making the game easier to play with multiple people." Narcissus‘ mobile version – an enhanced and improved version of the PC original – will be available to download starting on February 9th for iOS, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
