Hero Generations: ReGen is a game I’ve written about a few times in the past because it’s the kind of game we don’t often get on mobile. If you’ve been looking for a good-looking roguelike with a fun twist, you’ll only have to wait until August 18th to get your hands on Hero Generations: ReGen. The game has you exploring a procedurally-generated world with 6 different biomes while ensuring that your character leaves behind an offspring before his or her inevitable demise. Your child will inherit various traits from your spouse, so pick carefully. Every step your character takes is one year in his life, so there’s a fun clock ticking as you play.
The game offers various paths – for instance you can be a builder or you can focus on exploration – and has a pretty fun art style. When it comes to building, there are legacy lasting buildings you can construct next to towns that give future generations resources, new abilities, and more. And on top of all these, the game will have you pondering some complex themes as it forces you to negotiate ideas such a family, legacy, love, and, of course, death. Hero Generations: ReGen is a remake of an older PC game, but there have been plenty of enhancements and additions in the mobile version, so don’t steer clear of this one if you’ve played the original. So, if you’ve been fancying a cross between Civilization, Passage, and The Legend of Zelda (in the words of the developers), keep an eye on this one.
