Back in August, developer Hibernum Creations and publisher D3 announced Magic: The Gathering – Puzzle Quest, a spinoff mashup of the popular match-3 RPG Puzzle Quest and the grandfather of CCGs Magic: The Gathering. Then just a few days later, our own Carter Dotson was demoed Magic: The Gathering – Puzzle Quest at PAX Prime 2015. Now, if you’re interested in trying it out yourself, Magic: The Gathering – Puzzle Quest has soft-launched in the Singapore App Store (and possibly other regions?) over the weekend.
If you read through the thread in our forums, you’ll find some excellent first impressions from our community and some lengthy explanations on how the worlds of Puzzle Quest and Magic blend together in this new game. It’s easy enough to just say “It’s Puzzle Quest mixed with Magic: The Gathering, ya dingus!" and to a certain extent that’s totally true, there are some finer points to how Magic: The Gathering – Puzzle Quest works. It appears to be a pretty deep game.
So far impressions are very positive and it sounds like a great mashup of properties, as long as you are cool with the “modern" Puzzle Quest formula that’s highly social and very free to play. No word on when the worldwide launch of Magic: The Gathering – Puzzle Quest will be, but once we find out we’ll be sure to let you know.
