I always say that I’m tired of match-3 games – and I have played too many of them – but deep down, I’m always willing to play an interesting-looking new one. The Long Siege fits the bill, promising You Must Build a Boat ($2.99) style sliding of specific icons on a grid, in this case allowing you to summon units. You’ll be sieging enemy towers, trying to do damage and make it to the next tower. Hey, I can dig match-3 games when they’re about something more than just matching three icons together. Occasionally they’re fun for a lark, but I want something bigger.
The Long Siege looks gorgeous, and there’s some cool stuff going on behind the scenes. There’s a procedurally-generated environment, with day and night weather effects going on as well. There’s some awesome transitions going on, too. The Singapore-based team at Anomaly Studios is expecting to release this one next month, and it will be $1.99 without any IAP. Check out the forum thread for the game, as well.
