Sega’s Pulling a Bunch of Games from the App Store? Which Ones? Who Knows!

SEGA_logoBad news for fans of Sega’s mobile games – some of them are going away, Sega has announced today. Which ones are being pulled from the App Store? That’s a good question, that Sega has yet to answer. They’re only vaguely saying:

“[A]fter evaluating our complete list of titles, we have determined that a number of them no longer meet our standards. As a result, we will be removing these titles from the App Store for Apple devices, the Google Play Store, the Samsung App Store and the Amazon App Store over the next few weeks. While we have nothing to announce at this time, given the right situation, these titles may return in an updated form."

So yeah, that’s not reassuring at all! Sega gave a statement to VentureBeat, which didn’t really clarify what was getting axed, but talked a lot about “legacy IP" – which could mean a lot of those emulated Genesis titles might be the first to go, but again – Sega hasn’t yet said what’s going to be removed. The good news is that since the Christian Whitehead Sonic remakes all got updated for iOS 8 and the iPhone 6/+ recently, they’re probably safe. But it’s the uncertainty of just what’s going away that is worrying. You can pry Crazy Taxi (Free) from my cold, dead hands, Sega! Don’t put it out to pasture like you did to Jet Set Radio! And if you do, at least make that Sonic 3 and Knuckles remake happen! You owe us! Actually, do that remake anyway.
